Media interviews in progress, based on early info believed to be Martin & Vleminckx Amusement Rides (though info not 100% clear; it is a coaster moving outfit though). Hoorah!
They have been trying to sell it, at least it has a chance.

The thing that makes me hopeful is the Thunder Eagle, MVR has it in storage, their website says it "is dismantled, in storage with two PTC reconditioned trains."
It is a bitter disappointment that plans to keep Big Dipper on site did not work out. But I did not want to see it demolished, if it has to move MVR are the ones to do it. And though I hate the thought of it being dismantled, that is probably a lot safer than remaining SBNO under Cedar Fair ownership (until they would have decided to demolish it, maybe next month). _________________ "It's a very special ride. ^ Agreed, seeing dippers lift hill being torn down (like Thrillers hill in the Euclid Beach videos) would make me sick.
Ive always said BD needs to stay on site to regain its classic status. Looking at most of the wood on BD on preview day makes me wonder why anyone would want to reuse it, but what do I know.

MVR apparently grabbed the Bobs and Villain too!
I wonder why they haven't grabbed the Double Loop? Or is that later anyway? |

I am not happy at all, but its better than the inevitable. Watch one of your favorite coasters be demolished and then talk. At least there is still a SMALL possibility that we might ride it again. Once you see a coaster lying in a pile of rubble all chances to ever ride it again are gone. _________________ Greed is what caused GL's demise and that just makes me sick. Chris, I see what you are saying. I'm happier than I would have been with the alternative, which was demolition in the next few weeks. But still very sad the plan to keep it on site did not work out. In my view, it is at least better than the worst possible outcome, this buys more time. MVR has not been able to sell it so far, but maybe something will open up in the near future.
I hope we all can ride it again, there is more of a chance of that happening now than there would have been if no one bought it. I do not doubt it would have very likely been demolished soon if no one bought it. _________________ "It's a very special ride. We want to make sure it has a proper home." BigDipperLover just posted a Cleveland.com article in another thread, apparently my source was off about MVR but was accurate as to price and that the purchaser wants to relocate it, it sounds like a buyer with a definite location in mind:
http://blog.cleveland.com/business/2008/06/landmark_big_dipper_attracts_t.html
"Tom Woosnam, who works for Apex Western Machinery Movers, an Akron company that moves amusement rides, bought the coaster Tuesday for $5,000 for a buyer he declined to identify.
He said the buyer is a local company -- not in the amusement business --that wants to keep the coaster intact for historical purposes, but he wouldn't say where it would be moved. Woosnam placed the only bid for the coaster built in 1925, the seventh oldest in the country."
As we knew, CF must approve. "It's a very special ride. We want to make sure it has a proper home," says CF spokesman Robin Innes.
Let's hope its a good location and that there are no snags with approval. This could be much better than indefinite storage.

I do not see how Cedar Fair could say no. With the bad press they already have a refusal would be next to impossible. |

Oh friken gag me already! Who makes up this crap? If it was that special to CF it would have been saved a long time ago!!!! _________________ Greed is what caused GL's demise and that just makes me sick. Lets do what we can to rat out Kinzel - hes a snake.

I agree about the bad press, and I hope you are right about the approval. The article has been updated several times, it now says the sale "requires approval from Cedar Fair, which was to make a decision by 5 p.m. Tuesday." So we may know the approval part by the time the evening news rolls around. _________________ "It's a very special ride. We want to make sure it has a proper home." I completely agree Coasterdad. When I read that article and the crap spewing from Robin Innes' mouth, profanity came to mind and out loud in front of my husband.
I think that is crap and we all know it. They could have taken Dipper down before winter last year to preserve the wood that is on the coaster and saved that coaster from a brutal winter.
Any idiot of a company would say "Oh this is a historic coaster....we should preserve it ASAP and then decide what to do with it." _________________ Katie
