They removed and rebuilt the comet from crystal beach to great escape and it's smother, faster and allot better there, but I will always remember it at crystal beach. The only thing I don't like about it is that they didn't put in the enclosed area at the end of the ride.

I could be all wet on this, but after reading the article in Theme park review on what the new owners plan on doing with Chippewa Lake???? Especially at the end when he says "alot of what we're doing has been here in the past" when it came to the features.

They are not rebuilding Chippewa Lake park. It is going to be a Housing community with a resort style Hotel. The features They are talking about are water features designed around the Property for the home owners to view. It will be a water art theme because Chippewa is supposed to be the largest natural spring lake.

The Aurora Advocate is reporting that "An announcement about plans for the former Geauga Lake Park's Big Dipper roller coaster is expected by the end of the week, according to a source."  The article goes on to say that "Tom Woosnam of APEX Western Machinery Movers, the firm that bought the coaster June 17 for $5,000, provided that information July 7."

Nickconcrete mentioned the redevelopment at Chippewa Lake. I've heard nothing about it going there, but that is about the only place I can think of that would make sense if they stick to the plan to put it up as a non-operating nostalgia piece.

The announcement will appear on www.auroraadvocate.com after it is made (as opposed to waiting until next Wednesday).

I wasn't eluding to the fact that they were rebuilding Chippewa, I just thought after reading the article maybe pieces parts could be a part of the architectural plan.

Who would know the difference?  All of us.  It would be nice if it is moved and rebuilt, but it is hardly the same thing.  It needs to stay, but NOBODY but CF can make that happen.  And I live in Aurora and have supported GL every year that I've lived here.  The city itself couldn't do anything.  Aurora already has one of the best schools in the state, I hardly think the city is going to spend money from an already tight budget on BD.  I do think the city should have made CF aware that the closing was a bad move...but do you think CF would have stopped?  This is all CF...final.  You can't blame Six Flags, Aurora or anybody except CF.  I know many people in Aurora that are sick over the closing.  Who is Aurora, Ohio...one of the finest cities to raise a family in.  I hope BD stays where it is...but I don't see many options that CF will allow.

Please swdaze accept my apologies. I wasn't slamming the residents of Aurora as much as I was the administration, and it goes for the trustees of Bainbridge also. Refering to the begining, unless I blinked and missed it, I didn't see much of a fight. Some of the hotels in Streetsboro are talking of closing, jobs are lost and a large part of our entertainment is now gone. I just thought that more city leaders would have banded together on this issue. I'm very aware of the Aurora school system and the nice community it is, but I also believe that if Barrington was going to be torn down to put up an amusement park, Mr. McGill himself would have laid down in front of the bulldozer.

Great job Nickconcrete pointing out how un-involved the local governments have been throughout the past 8 years in the future of Geauga Lake area.  If I were the Mayor of Aurora or any of the surrounding communities you better believe from day one when SeaWorld decided to pull out of Northeast Ohio I would have been doing everything in my power to keep them here.  Had we not lost SeaWorld we would NOT be in this situation we find ourselves in today!

You are so right. When Sea World left, the town started to suffer and IMO has not ever recovered. Sure there are lots of new retail things going up, but who will be able to afford to shop there when you think about the loss of economy losing the parks brought about? Think about the amount of summer jobs alone that are being lost!

Summer jobs, tourism money, hotel jobs, restaurants that relied on tourism to bring numbers up...

While Aurora and Bainbridge themselves may not suffer a ton, the taxes are going to be lean until any new development is done (property tax on an empty lot is a whole lot less than on a campground / amusement park) and Streetsboro is going to just be decimated.

You think they would care more about Geauga Lake...for one it used to be a destination point for them. Two... wouldn't they suffer tax wise? I doubt the new owner of the land will pay what CF payed them in taxes.

I was just reading on the Pointbuzz web site and I been reading about the debate if the BD should go to CP. it has been a heated discussion. I have noticed that even though GL is not to be talked about, it keeps getting in. I know as this mess unfolds, and more people find out about what really happened to GL he crap will really hit the fan forCF. I just wish that a big wig could have bought the land and the rides and save it form being murdered!

Anyone out there have any new info on the fate of the big dipper! Really want to keep an eye on this one, never know if you wake up and it could be gone without warning! CF is good for doing things like that.
