The ranking of possible outcomes for Big Dipper and Blue Streak, from best to worst:
1. Cedar Fair sells the entire park to a responsible, upstanding amusement park operator.
2. Cedar Fair realizes the gem they possess, and keeps the park while pumping new (and intelligent) investment into Geauga Lake.
3. Cedar Fair keeps the park running, but at its neglectful normal levels.
4. Cedar Fair closes the park, but Big Dipper gets adopted by another park that will take care of the historical landmark.
5. Cedar Fair closes the park; BD reduced to rubble.
While many of us would have preferred options #1,2 or 3, we'll still gladly take #4 over #5. |

Maybe it's just me but, saving the BD and relocating it is equivalent to destroying its historical stature. Retaining the BD on the current land is the only way to preserve its historical relevance and passing on the memories from generation to generation. I'm sorry but, the sale and relocation of the BD is nothing to get excited about. What company in its right mind would rebuild the BD with the existing hardwood anyway? |

Your position is certainly reasonable, though within various communities of historians there is debate about that point.
I come from the half-a-loaf school. You come from the no-loaf-at-all school. It's just different philosophies. |

^ that was random... anyways, look at it this way, M&V seem to give two $hits about the coaster. Seeing as ACE, CF, ... didn't. I'm excited to see where it ends up. You guys make it seem like they're burning it down with passion. _________________ 2008 - Mantis Crew

Once again, nobody on the board of ACE knew about the offer to take Dipper for free, and they put a bid in on the land. Given that CF has cried wolf (we're not closing, we're not moving dominator, no, really.) I would give ACE the benefit of the doubt on this one. |

When I drive by the area with my two girls and explain, "that's where Sea World Ohio and Geauga Lake used to be" is very different from "that's the Big Dipper that was part of the old Geauga Lake". I respect the different opinions but Big Dipper not on its present location will not be the Big Dipper at all. In fact, it is apparent that nothing may remain on the current Geauga Lake property as a reminder if its past. At least Euclid Park still has the entrance gates as a marker of its past. |

This may just be some hope, but how do you know that M&V isn't buying this stuff for ACE, since cedar fair is giving them such a hard time! Why not make a deal with another company to help you buy the stuff that you want?
Thats what I would do if I where ACE. Get an outsider to buy the things I want so that cedar fair wouldn't catch on, then buy land and reopen park!
Sounds easy don't it, but you never know! |

M&V aren't involved anymore, it's Apex that bought Wolf Bobs and the Dipper. |

I could not agree more. I had a similar list late last summer, when the removal rumors were flying, that went something like this:
1. Dominator and/or Thunderhawk removed.
2. Dominator, Thunderhawk, Raging Wolf Bobs, Pepsi Plunge and Skyscraper removed.
3. Massive removals of most of the rides, leaving only Happy Harbor, and Western Village through the area around Big Dipper.
4. Only area between Big Dipper and lake retained with Carousel and some old flats (Spider/Black Squid, Scrambler/Boardwalk Typhoon, Haybaler/Matterhorn, some kiddie rides) and some other flats in Happy Harbor.
5. Entire ride side flattened.
I did not like the thought of 4, but would sure take it over what we got. It seems that over the last 18 months when Geauga Lake rumors started flying, only the worst came true. If we can ride the Big Dipper again (and maybe even Raging Wolf Bobs at the same location!) that is certainly better than the worst that could have happened.
I do believe the Herschman/ACE plan got a raw deal from Cedar Fair, and that will not be soon forgotten. The timing of events sure suggests that Cedar Fair never seriously considered their proposal to save some of the history on site, and that is very disappointing.
My source indicated that when the Big Dipper was placed up for auction, the auctioneer indicated it had been offered to ACE and not accepted. A dark haired woman with glasses said "that's not true." The auctioneer said it was, and threatened to have security remove her. He did not, as nothing else was said. A number of ACE leaders are saying the same thing, why would they lie about that? Clarifying what was said/not said is up to Cedar Fair and ACE to decide, but it sure does not look good. _________________ "It's a very special ride. We want to make sure it has a proper home." "There will not be a lot more work being done on the property" in 2008 said Innes. CF save BD in 09.

Ok! They could have made deals with more than 1 company, so who knows! I just try to keep hope for are geauga lake, as this still seams like it's not going to end the way some of us thought! We just have to be patient and see. (Apex,M&V) what does it matter, as long as people have money, there are deals that ACE could make. Kinda like, how some of you want to wait for someone to buy a ride, then try to purchase the ride sign from them as a reminder of the park. |

Because this person knew what she was talking about and CF did not want anyone who really knows what happened to spill the beans, especially with the amount of people there. This is the way CF operates.

I apologize for the confusion over MVR, it was my fault, based on a miscommunication.
WKYC has some new details on the buyer Apex Western Machinery Movers and this story has taken a very disappointing turn:
http://www.wkyc.com/news/local/news_article.aspx?storyid=91687&catid=3
"We move machines, we don't buy them. The buyer intends to move the coaster. It will be re-erected but not as a ride, but as a nostalgia piece," Woosnam said. Name of buyer will be revealed "in about a week."
That makes the alleged offer to ACE even more heartbreaking. _________________ "It's a very special ride. We want to make sure it has a proper home." Cedar Fair's Innes on Big Dipper, 12th oldest roller coaster on Earth.

Here is WKYC's version of the exchange at the Big Dipper:
Before the Big Dipper was auctioned, Norton "told the crowd that Cedar Fair had offered the American Coaster Enthusiasts the ride."
"'That's false,' a voice from the crowd piped up" (Carole Sanderson, Herschman CFO/ ACE past-president).
"Get that woman out of here. Security, remove her from the park," Norton shouted in reply.
Ms. Sanderson "was not removed and the auction went forward."
"It's a shame," Sanderson said afterwards. "(ACE) has never been offered the ride. Norton may be saying that but it's not true."
I suspect we have not heard the last of this story. _________________ "It's a very special ride. We want to make sure it has a proper home." Cedar Fair's Innes on Big Dipper, 12th oldest roller coaster on Earth.
