I was at work yesterday and had the radio tuned to Oldies 106.1, I heard two commericals for CP and ONE for WWK. As far as tv spots, I've seen more Kennywood and CP and I think just ONE for WWK.
If it doesn't close this year, it will next year. I never really liked the waterpark anyway. Sure the slides were nice, but the wave pool was boring. I spent most of my time riding Villain, Dominator, and Big Dipper. _________________ "What we do in life, echoes in eternity."

I don't think they want to wast the money on a park that won't be open much longer. _________________ Geauga Lake I will miss you! |

Sounds like an accurate statement to me.
Personally, i think it they enclosed it and made a resort out of it, it could work. I don't know of anyone right now that wants to go Sandusky or Erie indoor parks with gas prices going bonkers. (and we know these gas prices are NOT going to go down and unfortunately our wages will not rise to meet them and absorb the difference. Let's not even talk about groceries and utility costs rising...) _________________ >>>>>Feuer FREI<<<<<<

According to one Canadian newspaper, WWK is booming!
| Quote: |
Another Ohio destination that is attracting huge crowds is Geauga Lake's Wildwater Kingdom.
Located 30 miles southeast of Cleveland, Wildwater Kingdom is a state-of-the-art outdoor waterpark that opened in 2005.
Covering 17 acres, Wildwater Kingdom features Ohio's largest outdoor wave pool (Tidal Wave Bay) and the state's tallest slide complex (Thunder Falls).
It also has a funnel slide, lazy river and kid's area.

^LMAO!!!
I wonder how much they got paid to write that?
The articles should've said: Lots of slides with little or no waiting!!!
Oodles of parking!!!!
Food prices less than that of the Skylon Tower!!!!
Affordable Water!!!! _________________ >>>>>Feuer FREI<<<<<<

I pass the parking lot daily and never see more than ...say 75 cars at a time. Alot of buses are bringing church groups and schools in. With the weather we have had so far this year it doesn't look too good for the park. But at the same time we still have July and August. This is also a screwy year. Look at the Winter we just had. You can't have a crazy winter and spring then expect a normal summer. I basically look at the park as a tax write off for the company. _________________ Remember......Fan Boys and Haters are always good for one thing. A one sided argument. Which are you? |

And I love how Ohio's largest tidal wave pool is STILL smaller than the one that was onsite during 1984-1995(ish?).
So... How many hotels are going to stay open in that county again? And the requisite restaurants and such?
I have a friend who manages a certain fast-food chain restaurant in Streetsboro on the main drag... I'll have to see if he can give me summer-season numbers for the past few years... |

Last week, we ate at the Pizza Hut on 43, and the Mgr told us his business is way down compared to last year this time.
He said much of their business was people leaving the park for dinner and going right back. For a family of four, it's still cheaper to eat at Pizza hut vs. eating in the park.
Go figure... _________________ >>>>>Feuer FREI<<<<<<

Here's an interesting thing to consider...
Previous poster estimated about 75 cars in the WWK parking lot to ride waterslides.
On the day of the auction I'd put it somewhere about 200 - 250 cars in the parking lot to stand around and do nothing on a weekday with a threatening sky.
Great decision to close the park, CF. Seems you'd have better attendance and costs just leaving the "dry-side" open with no operational rides.
Remember when they said the "wet-side" was what was drawing people to the park? Psha... I've got a garden hose and a Slip N Slide, what do I need with a water park? _________________ Positions Held:

LOL - oh so right. I would have paid $10 for a few more chances to walk around the park, explore places I didn't get to on preview and auction day. |

So, I bought passes to WWK (I have a 3 1/2 year who just can't understand why we can't go to Geauga Lake anymore) and I bought him lunch there; I asked the cashier how much food is wasted everyday? She said it is unbelievable... b/c they had trays of chicken fingers fries etc. etc. and one other family came to eat in the 45 minutes while we sat there! _________________ SCREWCREW 88/ Ride op 1988

Maybe we should start a thread like:
What excuse will Dick make for CF's decision to close the WAterpark?
Given the weather, economy and it's connection to Cf, it's sooooo doomed. _________________ >>>>>Feuer FREI<<<<<<

GeaugaMamma, Can you give us some idea of what the crowds inside WWK are really like?
What are wait times for Liquid Lighting? Last year the line came all the way down to the bottom of the stairs.
Are there any empty lounge chairs around wave pool and kids area?
Apparently no one is buying food, but was the patio around Pizza Pier full?
Any info you can add would be great. _________________ Greed is what caused GL's demise and that just makes me sick. Lets do what we can to rat out Kinzel - hes a snake.
