Inside WWK: no crowds, no lines, lots of lounge chairs, it was like nothing I have ever seen. Great for my 2 sons; they felt like they has the place to themselves & well they pretty much did. I have gone 3 times so far and that is what it has been like. _________________ SCREWCREW 88/ Ride op 1988

| Having been to WWK twice this year so far, I believe that it will last through 2009 and then it will be shut down. Dick knows that he is already getting tons of bad PR and to come out this year and close what is left of Geauga Lake would destroy the 1% of credibility that he has now, The thing I never understood is why in the world were waterslides sitting on the dry side of the park when they could have been moved over to WWK? I am amazed at the level of stupidity that Cedar Fair runs Geauga Lake with. |

| You know what kills me about WWK? Its the fact that when I go there that you know what is happening to the rest of the park! It realy disturbs me. I am having enough trouble dealing with this whole mess. I know I have been enjoying other parks, but I still feel a void when it comes to the fact that I will never be able to ride the rides at Geauga Lake! Plus the fact when I am in the water park I can't help feeling like you shoud be walking in Sea World! |

I dont think Wildwater Kingdom will make it. I have been going to GL's waterpark since the first wave pool. Lots of things have changed. We have always gotten passes and Ive always went nearly my whole summer.
First of all the lifeguards are horrible. I know they are doing their job but they are nasty and rude. The supervisors are good since we have known them since they first got their job. In the old waterpark we would know every single lifeguard by name. This is different, I maybe know 5.
Second they yell if you bring food and drinks. They are forcing people to pay 30 dollars a pizza. This is outrageous. Six Flags didnt care about bringing food, Cedar Fair is pissing alot of people off by forcing them to buy the parks food. I saw it just today, people had to throw away a cooler.
Like someone else said, they should have moved some of the great slide over with the park. They had Shark Attack slides, Stingray Wet Slides, and Neptune Falls that would have been easy to move. That would give more stuff to for people to do. Im already bored with WWK and Ive only been there 6 times.
I hope it does get shut down and I hope all of Cedar Fair closes with it. |

Here's an interesting thing to consider...
Previous poster estimated about 75 cars in the WWK parking lot to ride waterslides.
On the day of the auction I'd put it somewhere about 200 - 250 cars in the parking lot to stand around and do nothing on a weekday with a threatening sky.
Great decision to close the park, CF. Seems you'd have better attendance and costs just leaving the "dry-side" open with no operational rides.
Remember when they said the "wet-side" was what was drawing people to the park? Psha... I've got a garden hose and a Slip N Slide, what do I need with a water park? |
Hey that previous poster was ME!!! I could not agree more with what you said. Would of been sweet to work with you at the park. _________________ Remember......Fan Boys and Haters are always good for one thing. A one sided argument. Which are you? |

Would have loved to have worked with many of you guys... who knows though we may have seen eachother back-in-the-day. My last season was 92/93... although those last few seasons I rarely went to the caffeteria. We Kamman's Artsy types typically hung out in the break area under Double Loop.
Funny, on auction day I snapped a ton of photos of that area and the people I was with kept trying to figure out why I was so interested in a pavilion behind a men's room. _________________ Positions Held:

I voted yes. WWK will make it.
I mean its so new, why would Cedar Fair spend 20 million on a waterpark that would last less than 10 years?

For the same reason that Cedar Fence would spend 140 million on a park to shut it down.

Do you drive by WWK daily? I do, not by choice, but b/c I live too close and have to. Most of the time; I know they are operating at a loss, based on what I see in the parking lot. Maybe WWK was opened soley for a write off, knowing it was going to fall on it's face.Hmmmm????? Think a little deeper sharp shark. _________________ SCREWCREW 88/ Ride op 1988

Will WWK survive? I say definitely not, and here's why:
1. Cedar Fair made it quite clear that Geauga Lake was not worth their time. They kept paying lip-service to the fact that they wanted to return the park to its family roots, etc, and yet kept saying how dissatisfied they were with the attendance (even though 700,000 is very in line with other family parks, and in line with many of CF's other parks). A seasonal water park in Ohio is going to rake in maybe a fourth of that attendance if they are lucky, and revenues will also plummet. Amusement operators have often cited the fact that people don't spend much money in water parks (food, souvenirs, etc). So if Geauga Lake wasn't worth Cedar Fair's time, how will this measly 3.5 month water park that gets maybe a fourth of the attendance and a fraction of the revenue be worth it?
2. When Cedar Fair announced WWK they said it was going to be a mammoth water park, one of the largest in the country, etc, etc. We all know that this multi-phase water park basically ended up being a single phase water park. Why for the cancellation of its second phase? CF cited rising costs. I could understand if this meant one less slide tower, or one less shop or food stand, but in order to hedge these rising costs they had to jettison the two slide towers, 2nd lazy river, swim up bar, theater, and other attractions shown in the rendering? Sure... It is obvious that CF no longer wanted to invest in WWK and no longer had such a large interest in the property.
3. Cedar Fair knew that the closing of GL would bring about a plethora of negative press, and everyone would be very unhappy to say the least. Wouldn't you think that CF would have wanted to offset this negativity by announcing something new at WWK? Reassure the public that you are committed to making WWK work by announcing a new slide complex, flow-rider, or something! They already had preliminary plans for some of this when phase II was on the drawing boards, and as we all know, CF has an amazing knack for relocating attractions to other parks very quickly. Instead, however, CF announces in the town hall meeting that they instead have no plans of expanding WWK at that time. Wow, that's reassuring.
4. In the brochure sent out advertising the land for sale, you can see that CF is leaving WWK basically no room for expansion. Many cite the large parking lot as a source of expansion room, but the road dividing the parking lot and entrance would make this a large undertaking. Even Happy Harbor's land was up for sale! No one would want to buy land that literally backed up to a water park with no buffer in between. And even the land across the lake. Housing? We all know how picky residents are with nearby amusement parks / water parks / animal parks, and frankly I don't think residents would like opening up their back door to stare at water slides and hearing children scream from the wave pool. Developer's would be very wary of this, and this would really reduce what CF could get for the land. I would imagine that there are some confidential talks being held behind the scenes that the water park will be out of commission in time for the opening of any developer project on the other side. Again, combine this with the fact that this already small water park has no room for expansion.
5. Combine all the above reasons with the fact that Soak City is in desperate need of update, and yet has not received any new additions since its water play fort I want to say in 03 or 04. And investing in Soak City would be great for that property. It is a separate gated water park so it would drive ticket sales, also drive sales at CP, and drive hotel reservations. It would probably end up being more economically beneficial than the stand alone WWK park. Thunder Falls and Liquid Lightning (and some of the cabanas, food stands, and shops), and I dare say even their more recent water play area would go perfectly at Soak City.
For the above reasons, I feel pretty confident that WWK won't last long. Whether it will have one, two, or three more seasons? Who knows. But I don't think it will take long, and I'd guess three more seasons max. I'd say if I had to guess, next season will be its last. _________________ www.ipetitions.com/petition/geaugalake

For the same reason they purchase th paramont parks during a bad economy. Nobody said they were smart..... Sure it was a hit while GL was open but thats because it had a park you could do something in attached to it. WWK by itself is doomed. Face it your stupid and so is dick, so go back to the Point where you belong. _________________ Geauga Lake I will miss you! |
