After all of the depressing new this week from the auction ,we decided to get away for a day trip to Kennywood.
I really needed to get away and Kennywood did the job perfectly.

Google mapping the route we set off and had little trouble getting there.
There was some construction along the way but the trip took about 2 1/2 hours from Parma, with a stop for snacks.

This was my first trip to Kennywood so I was not sure what to expect.
Kennywood is much nicer than can be shown in pictures, but here are a few. Some are captures from video, the video should be available this afternoon.

Most prople here know about Kennywoods coasters so I wanted to show some of the scenery. We had a great trip. Well worth the drive.
Prices are really good.
Lockers ONE DOLLAR!
Parking FREE!
A four pack of tickets $74.00, singles $21.00 at Discount Drug Mart.
All of the employees were having fun and pleasant.
The place is clean, shaded, and beautiful.
Not the easiest to get to but worth the drive.
You should really get to Kennywood if you can.

Thanks for the pics and thoughts on your first-ever visit to Kennywood.  Very glad to hear you enjoyed it.  It really is a nice park that features a good selection of everything.

Loved that picture of the Musik Express.  Kennywood's is as close to GL's old model as you're likely to find and it runs all out.  And your picture of the food was great.  That is a lot of food for the price.

I had considered going to KW yesterday, but after looking at the park website, it appeared that over 15 school groups were having their school picnic there on Friday.  That alone is enough to keep me FAR away!

Again, thanks for sharing your day.  I have to respond to Gunkey Monkey's TR as well but he's got so much stuff to comment on, it may take a while.  Smile

Glad to hear you had a good time yesterday.  That chicken alfredo looks mighty good and not a bad price at all. Was that at the Parkside Cafe? I'll have to remember that if I go back again this year.

Ray, despite all the church groups, the park wasn't bad at all. It just seemed to get busier around 4:00.

WOW...it looks like Kennywood was busier than Cedar Point was yesterday.  I can only imagine how busy Geauga Lake would have been had they not been murdered.  I know that my family and I would have been there.

A look at the food and the price...absolutely amazing.  Take into consideration the price of admission...only $74 for a family of four, free parking (I'll pay the $5 for preferred parking...it's still much better than the $10 Cedar Point charges for their parking) and it's a much better bargain...and you get to ride rides!!!  Kennywood is definitely going to be my new home park...even if I do have to drive to Pennsylvania to get there.  You still can't beat a family friendly park.

But, but, but Mr. Innes said you couldn't have a whole day of fun at Kennywood.  How could that be?

Kennywood is the American Classic that pre-Six Flags Geauga Lake was, I think more and more people in Cleveland who loved Geauga Lake will begin to love Kennywood.

That alfredo was from Parkside Cafe. I think (since I haven't been there this year) that whole dinner was around 7-8 bucks.

Even if the park is jammed packed most line you will wait in is for Pittfall or Exterminator. And that is no more then about 45 minutes.

Great pics!!

Yes, that was from Parkside Cafe. It was me in the picture. That had to be the best Chicken Alfredo I've ever had, and way too much on the plate. The shirt I am wearing is one I made for my website. The address is on the back. If you are interested in one, PM me and I'll see what I can do.

I haven't gone yet, but am trying to plan a day (maybe overnite) at Kennywood with my 6 & 8 yr olds.   Any input anyone can give me regarding just about anything, from best day & route to go, to the best places to stay, or even where the best rate for admission are.  If I can swing it as an overniter, I might do that.  If we do an overnighter we might do Sandcastle too.
Any info anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

If you do KW overnight and want to do Sandcastle as well...get your tickets from AAA...$20 and it includes a pass to Sandcastle.  You can't possibly beat that deal.

The pictures remind me so much of GL in it's glory days.  I have a week vacation coming next month, I just might go check out Kennywood and Waldameer for myself

also Idlewild is a good visit too....even though its not a big park. It has a great waterpark and quite a few flats with a classic woodie and a nice mouse coaster. I can't wait to go see waldemeer. I may not to get to visit this year because my fiance has a new job that really restricts my amuesment time...but theres always next year with our vacation time.
