I do have a digital and a disposable. The damn Digital eats batteries like crazy, so I never use it. I would have taken some pictures if there were any good ones to take. Because of the Fence with the green tarp in front of the park all you can see is the top of the front end loader. There are 2 guys and the front end loader. I am home now but as of 5pm all they had done was the bottom of the white and blue slide. If I go by that way tomorrow I'll get some shots. Remember when the real demolition starts I'll have a front row seat. Not that I'm excited or anything. I would however like to see how they go about removing rides and coasters.

Thanks - anything you do will be appreciated. I cant get there every day so it would be nice to know when something major is happening.

A far as the digital camera, yes they do eat regular batteries like crazy. If your camera takes AA batteries you might want to pick up one of those Lithium Ion AA batteries plus charger. They sell for under $20 with the charger and 4 batteries.

Not that I am happy that the park is closed or that rides are being removed but I think you can all agree with me when I say its about time those slides have been removed they have been standing there SBNO for 3 years now.

I'm no expert on waterslides (unless miles and miles on Neptune's Falls in the mid- and late 80s qualifies), but I would not have expected those to sell, let alone get the highest amount of anything in the park at the auction.  I guess they looked to be a lot worse shape than they actually were.

It's good to see the stuff from that area moving out to somewhere it will be used.  I'm looking forward to seeing how Schlitterbahn uses all of the waterslides and rides they bought at their Kansas City Vacation Village.

On the other hand, I have a feeling we are going to see some massive and rapid deconstruction of other areas of the park next week that will be very hard to watch.

A good friend of mine did the welding on the support towers on those slides (have a couple photos of him building it)... if he's any indication of his work it's going to look horrible but hold up forever.

The only way he would be a better representation of his work was if 100 gallons of scotch poured down those chutes every hour.

Hello all, I'm new here. I'm sorry you guys lost your park. I was able to visit a few times since moving to Ohio in the mid 90s. A friend and I went to the auction. It was really difficult.

Question on Double Loop, I had to leave the auction early. I am aware of the ride's fate, but where are the trains going? I was really hoping to get that awesome logo that was on the station (see TBone's avatar). Anyone know what happened to it, or who I could contact regarding it? I've also wanted an Arrow wheel for years lol. Thanks for any tips....

They should have waited until the water park season was over to remove the big items. CF is wrong for treating water park customers this way. The DL trains and signs were not for sale.

A bit of coaster trivia (at least what was explained to me by a welder at the auction):

Unlike many modern coasters, The Double Loop was not screwed or rivetted together.  It was welded -- essentially creating a continuous steel tracked roller coaster.

To dismantle The Double Loop in such a way as to allow relocation of it would have required a welder on a cutting tourch with the skill of a surgeon.

Instead, the likely fate of DL will be a backhoe with a scissor claw tearing away at the track like a Tazmanian Devil on crack.

Apparently the costs associated with moving the coaster would have been so insurmountable only the most dedicated preservationist would ever try (which makes me REALLY wonder what Dipper's buyer has planned since they bid on DL as well).

From what I understand the Corkscrew was the same way, but it was able to be dismantled and reassembled in India. Too bad that couldn't happen with DL

Going through the Roller Coaster Database, there are 18 Arrow coasters that were welded instead of screwed together that have been relocated (our very own Corkscrew is one of them), some twice,  and one (Sidewinder at Elitch Gardens) three times!  I think the cost with moving the Double Loop has been used as an excuse, one that may have doomed the poor coaster.  I think the cost involved cannot be too great, otherwise why would 18 coasters have been moved if it was so insurmountable?

It's probably not financially unfeasible but more likely, it's an issue of demand.  I'm sure it would be less expensive to dismantle and re-erect that coaster than to buy a similar model new but if your going to spend that much money you would most likely want to get something of a more modern design.

Our park is quickly disappearing. I took a drive up to WWK to go swimming and was I surprised they were doing this stuff on weekends. I saw two flat bed trucks coming from GL. One looked like it had Haybaler trains and big boulders on it. The other one I saw go karts on. When I got to WWK it was hot and I enjoyed the water park until I went to Thunder Falls slides. The slides are fun but the deconstruction is terrible to see. Happy Harbor area  is almost empty. I told myself the rides were there so I wouldn't get upset. Alot of people were upset in this area of the park and crying. I didn't take any pictures because I was swimming and having fun. The front of the park looks intact. There is a green tarp on the fence by the old water slide that was sold but it hasn't been removed yet. I wish this was all a bad dream and I would wake up and our park would be open for business again. I miss GL alot.

They were cutting Happy Harbor Nets apart yesterday while people were at the water park. I think Cleveland Scrap bought it. I think this is terrible they should have relocated some of these items to other parks in the chain instead of scrapping them. I will never forgive CF for this closure and how they have handled GL.
