I was at Cedarpoint today and while I was in linre for the Iron Dragon, I was talking to a couple of ladies about rides. We got talking about Arrow coasters and I told them what happened to the Double Loop! They were shocked! They didn't even know the park was closed! They live just outside of Detroit and they were giving passes for Geauga Lake. They showed me them and they said hey didn't notice that it is a waterpark only! Talk about trying to hid a pink elephant! CF is taking the park apart so fast that many don't even know the park is closed!!!! |

I was at work tonight and I had asked one of my bosses that came from Pittsburgh about Kennywood; she said it is a nice park but it's no Cedar Point...anyway, we got to talking about Cedar Point and I said I didn't care because I am mad at Cedar Fair anyway. Another employee asked why and I said: "Because they closed my favorite amusement park, Geauga Lake." This employee said: "HUH? Geauga Lake is closed?!?" I said: "Yeah, didn't you hear about it?!?!?"
He then said: "No, but I just waited on a big family tonight that said they are on their way to spend the whole weekend at Geauga Lake! They came from another state."
I said: "Well, all they're gonna find there is a jinky-a$$ waterpark. They won't need a whole weekend for that...they'll only need about 2 hours!"
I'd HATE to be the person working the gate tomorrow at WWK! Oooooooo, da%#! |

Oh the sh*t is starting to hit the fan...and people will be pissed. It still shocks me about the closing of GL and how many people STILL DON'T KNOW ITS CLOSED. Talk about a rough awakening. _________________ Geauga Lake I will miss you! |

I still get emails from time to time for people asking for info on Geauga Lake and their rides as people still want to come to the park. I even had one as recent as a few days ago.
I have to break the news that the park's no longer there. To me Geauga Lake's Wildwater Kingdom is not Geauga Lake and it never will be. _________________ On September 21, 2007, a historic 119-year old amusement park had been secretly murdered. Never forget it. |

There are dozens of road signs around Aurora that still point the way to "Geauga Lake." So, sadly, I believe some families and kids will arrive at the park with no warning.
Remember, Cedar Fair never closed a park before and was telling people as recently as the start of the final season that "rumors of Geauga Lake's demise or that we are slowing phasing it out" were untrue. So I can see a lot of people not knowing it is gone. _________________ "It's a very special ride. We want to make sure it has a proper home." Well, maybe if you and others like you would have gone to the park since 2005, you wouldn't be whinning over Double Loop now because the park would still be open. Just a thought... |

Pete, that argument doesn't fly. I have bought 4 season passes to this park for many many years running, I have a stack of them. We also went multiple times per year, paying for food and drinks and knick-knacks. I have spent THOUSANDS on this park. Literally. So yes, I damn well have a right to whine and I will.
I still can't get over the fact that this park has been there for almost a century and a quarter and some jackasses buy it and shut it down. I honestly feel that to some degree that park belonged to the public domain as so many generations of people paid money into it and enjoyed it for so long. What real right do these people have? The current owners were probably 50 years away from even being born before this park came about. Yes, I know, they bought it, they own it blah blah blah but it's just so wrong that they could do this.
Disgusting. It's just not fair.
So there. I felt like whining.
Now I feel better (not) |

And I'm one of those that hasn't been there in 2005. Why?
I'm busy, back in school trying to finish my degree, in my second year of homeownership, and getting married in a month.
If I had any clue that Geauga Lake was not doing well, I would've re-directed what little entertainment money I had to season passes. If I had known that 2007 was its last season, I would've borrowed if I had to, just for one last trip through the park. But these things never made the news. I had a Beacon Journal subscription all year last year, read cover-to-cover every Sunday and at least 1-2 other days each week, and didn't see anything in there about Geauga Lake (including advertisements) until the closing announcement.
So now that the fiancee is done with classes, ready to start making "real" money, and the new furniture and such has been paid for, I can't go back to Geauga Lake. |

My husband and I have made many many many visits to the park since 2001 at least. Even before then! He went more then I did, but I still spent my money in the park.
I was there closing weekend and spent well over 150 bucks on tickets, food, souvenirs, stuff for Matt and even a few on ride photos!!!!
So don't tell me I don't have a right to bi*** about my home park closing. Kiss my a**, I was there. (Talking to Pete)
I don't think that anyone has a right to tell us here how we don't have the right to be upset. We were there, we spent our money for this park. We loved the rides and the atmosphere.
We are allowed to bi*** and gripe until we get the answers we are looking for. No one can tell me otherwise or say something about me on other websites for having my opinions. _________________ Katie |

Katie, I wasn't talking about you or GLisdun, rather geaugafan2013. Reading his post again, I am seeing he was just being sarcastic and a troll. Sometimes in rushing through these forums the meaning gets lost. My mistake. |
