I agree! I know that GL will live forever on the land no matter what is built on it! I know when I walked around for the last ime at the auction, I could feel the power of my happy place! I know it makes my heart feel so heavy knowing thow fast everything is coming down. I along with many others on this site are trying to make sense of this . Many most likely have been told by others that it was just an amusement park, bu for the GL lovers on this site, it was so much more. I hope that what ever gets build on the land will be haunted b the screams and the music like carioque41 said! Maybe they can make movie about it. Like the Poltergist movies form he 80's.... There here........

I love that I had the chance to go to GL with my dad, and my grandmother, and hear how they each went to Geauga Lake when they were young. Each telling me about the train that used to run here... or the tumble bug that used to be there... Like many of you out there... that park was more than an amusement park. It was a tradition. Generations of our families grew up there. Took high school dates there.
Those memories end here.
For those of us just beginning families, we will only be able to drive passed and look at the condos and strip mall and tell our young ones what used to be there.
Okay... I just really bummed myself out.

WOOO! my 100th post!

anyway.

^^looking at the post above me, Luckly i will have proof for my future kids that a great family amusement park once stood there.
too bad i wont be able to take them. :[ it used to be a family tradition.

my dad's dad took my dad there, and my dad took me there. I just wish i could take my kids there and continue such a wonderful tradition.

although i guess it would be kinda cool to know that someone once threw up in your yard. But then again, it would feel like i was living in a lakeside graveyard.

But i guess thats life. Horrible corporate companies will get their ways as we watch Kinzel steal away every last amusement park and make sure they are all gone besides his baby, Cedar point.

^yes im exaggerating, but i'm pretty sure kinzel has come across that plan a couple, if not a few times.

over and OUT.

I hope to keep any peace for so many that they would consider a park in part of the land so people can at least enjoy the lake and the memories of a great park that once stood there....

As an update, the wheel is still up but all the cars are gone - very eerie sight and absolutely depressing.

I was at the park yesterday and I looked at the empty wheel. What a sad site! I hope it will have a nice home at King Dominion. It won't have the same great view we had watching the Dominator and Thunderhawk by the lake. At least the DOminator will have an old friend there with it! Is sad that we have to travel all over the country to ride our rides! No fair!!!!!Those rides belong to us!!!!

The rides unfortunately now belong to Cedar Un-Fair.

Your right CF owns the rides, but it still   upsets me to know that I have to travel all over the country torde the rides that just 10 months ago were in GL which is 35 minue from my house. And with the price of gas plus trying to find people to go wih me being a very hard task, I really have to plan my coaster trips. I miss not just hopping in my car and hitting GL for a few hours. Now for me is that I travel 1.5 hours and  go whenI don't hit rush hour in downtown Cleveland and get back through before dark because I fear downtown at night just to ride my coasters. I know in a couple of week my family is planning to either go to Waldameer or Kennywood. I will have fun, but itssad because our trip every year used to be to Conneaut. It stinks that the two parks we went to are now history!!!!Plus its sad that in Ohio, things keep getting removed and the only thing that is replacing the fun is stores and places to eat! What a boring place Ohio especially NE Ohio is becoming!!!!

Conneaut isn't gone yet, dsloban!

Cross your fingers, hope, and buy a couple of the commemorative coins.  If it helps them get everything together, then you did something to work towards keeping the park.  If not, you have a nice memory piece.

well season is about mid season... and they will be packing up soon for 2009 announcements. Its really sad to see Americana like that. It was like a landmark the way it sat behind the entrance like that. Sad

What a sad sight! I know I was there on Wednesday and my son took a couple of pictures. He said that he saw the clock at 4:30. He said that is when they took the park off of Life support!

Coasterdad,

You really should send that picture to all the TV stations and newspapers in Cleveland, Sandusky, Akron, and Pittsburgh.  It's perfect.

^ I agree. It's time to show all of the people in the NE United states what were dealing with here. I talked to my cousins in Michigan yesterday. They didn't know the park was closed until I talked to them. They told me that there neighbors just left a couple days ago for a two day trip to GL. Well I think there going to be pissed off when they show up. Speaking of Pittsburgh, it is very noticeable that Kennywood is taking advantage of the closing of GL. Here in Stark county I can count 10 Kenywood signs to every WWK signs. I hope one day to get a chance to travel to Kennywood.

Let's hope people will decide when they see those billboards they'll decide to go to Kennywood or Waldimeer in Erie and not give anymore money to Cedar Fair.
