I don't get it either, particularly the trees.
I did not initially believe the theory that Kinzel and Falfas want all traces of Geauga Lake erased. It does not make business sense - why spend money to clear stuff when you could leave that for the buyer to do? Keep in mind this is a company that watches its costs - it left the old waterpark standing to rot until it was sold, they had ride ops running 2-3 kiddie rides on weekend days last summer. There are even reports of Falfas himself wandering Cedar Point on slow days looking for low wage seasonal workers he can send home to save a few dollars.
The more I see, the more that implausible theory seems to hold water. There were never any signals that they would let anything remain, even before the deadline for bids on the land passed.
This scorched earth policy seems to be a decision driven by emotion, not dollars and sense. I am no business expert, but someone who is once told me that the key to a good business decision, whether it is buying or selling a stock or getting a new car, is to avoid letting your emotions interfere.
Have Kinzel and Falfas been guided by emotions in their Geauga Lake decisions? I don't know the whole picture, but it sure looks like it to me. |
I have to agree completely. They sure arent making a good buisiness decision by spending the $$ to destroy land they are trying to sell....and it really seems driven by emotion. Sure a clean piece of land may sell better, but who's to say the new land owners couldnt have a use for the trees and landscaping at the very least? Heck, they could have charged more by leaving some of it standing!
Maybe there is something behind the scenes we arent privy to driving this. I mean, what did GL ever do to them? I also never understood why the hurry to demolish the 2 stadiums on the SW side and then never do anything substantial with the area. What good did that do other than cost them money?
I am still just so emotional about it all, and it really surprises me that I am. Glad I am not alone I guess. I seriously wish I had the money to get my hands on the land, tell CF whatever they wanted to hear as far as my plans for the use and reconstruct GL and SW piece by piece. In a perfect world..... |

Oh, and I am also trying to seer people to Kennywood, Idlewild and Darien lake. In fact, I drive past Kings Island every time we make the drive from TX to OH (which we are getting ready to do in a few weeks) and I always thought it would make a fun side trip....that was until I learned that CF now owns them. I had no idea until all this stuff started happening, I thought they were still Paramount. So my vacation dollars will be headed elsewhere on this trip back to OH- either Darien or the PA parks will get my money. |

Just to let you all know, Bids for land have already been in way before the auction, so CF could have already sold the land to someone and made a deal without any leaks of there secret to the media!
My guess is, the land being cleared means they sold it to someone already and are making way for the new owners needs! Rides are being torn down mainly by the one's who bought them, which means they are not CF workers. Only CF workers that might be there, is the one's clearing the land, but not the one's taking the rides down. If you bought a ride, would you trust CF workers to take it down for you? _________________ (ACFG)Anti-Cedar Fair Group |

Ya, I know that is probably the case...but I still wish there was a way to buy it up somehow! I cant wait to see what unnecessary housing community or shopping center is planned for there. I know I personally wouldnt want to live across from a waterpark (at least for now) or on land that quite possibly has 119yr old spirits on it. That howling noise during the auction was quite eerie
And I realize the dissassembly of the rides is by the people who bought them, but CF has certainly done enough pointless and reckless destruction of the other things there. |
