Knoebels.  To some, it's the definition of the perfect amusement park.  To others, it's nothing more than a glorified carnival.  Still others just don't "get" the place and rip on it every chance they get.  As far as I'm concerned, Knoebels is not the perfect amusement park, but it comes pretty darn close!

I'll just run down the rides I rode in the 3 and a half hours I was there.  All opinions are mine and I don't give a flying crap if "you people" agree.  Wink  Oh, and for those that don't like the "ticket" system, you're insane.

Flyers: Still one of the scariest rides in the park.  Not snapping these Flying Scooters is almost impossible and I swear I almost spun 360 degrees on one of my snaps.  It's a very unsettling feeling.

Twister: Rode it 5 times and had mixed feelings.  Seat 2.1 was okay, 6.1 was downright awful, and seat 1.2 was for me the best of the bunch.  When running well, Twister is one of the top woodies in America (it was my #1 for 2 years).  On Wednesday, it was not its usual self.  Sad

Phoenix:  If Twister was running bad, then Phoenix was running even worse.  The legendary airtime seat (1.3) really didn't do anything for me this time.  My second ride in seat 6.1 was far better, but still not the brutal airtime machine I remember it being during PPP 2006.

Haunted House:  I am currently writing an entire post about this ride.  This is unquestionably the greatest classic dark ride in existence today.  Everything about the Haunted House (or Mansion) is freaking incredible.  The sound and music are used to great effect as is the lighting.  It's just one scare after another with no "chicken wire" separating you from the stunts.  And some of the stunts come very close to the car.  An absolute must ride for any dark ride fan.

Scooter: Just as the Haunted House is the best dark ride I have been on, Knoebels Scooter is the best bumper car ride I have been on.  These Lusse tanks cause some serious damage when you collide with someone and when this girl that kept following me t-boned my car at the far end, the collision elicited a collective "ooooh" from those in line.  If you ever need a spinal readjustment, just take a ride on these.  Smile

Power Surge: Why don't more parks have these?  The ride sensation on this Zamperla creation is just awesome.  While the cycle time isn't long, it's a rare find in our neck of the woods.

And just to be the usual @ss that I am, I'll mention my lunch.  I dined at the International Food Court and had a Fish and Chips meal (3 pieces of fish and fries) and a 20 oz. white birch beer (mmm......) for the outrageous total of $7.  By comparison, my popcorn chicken, fries and drink at Dorney Park later in the day was $12.58.  Full TR on Dorney will appear later in the week.

Pioneer Train: A must-ride for me at Knoebels is this fun and relaxing miniature train ride.  The journey back into the dense woods to see the squirrels dining on corn cobs is well worth the $1.20 admission fee!

Giant Wheel:  Longest ride cycle ever on a ferris wheel.  I must have went around about 25 times while the employees rotated their smoke breaks (which they took directly behind the wheel!).

Scenic Sky Ride: At $3 per ride and not included in any ride-all-day pass, the Sky Ride is Knoebels kostliest attraction.  But the view from this mountainside chairlift is worth far more than the $3.  The scenery is simply stunning and the ride lasts about 10 minutes.

All in all, I spent under $50 at Knoebels- $25 on ride tix, $10 on a shirt, $7 for lunch and $2.50 for a bottled lemonade.  And I believe it was worth every cent.  The park, unlike others that have used the name recently, is an American Classic that refuses to modernize.  And for that, I'll be making the six hour trip to Elysburg many times in the years to come.

Thanks for reading.  When I have time I'll post a GLT friendly version of my first ever visit to Cedar Fair's Dorney Park.

Cool report Ray.  I've always wanted to go to Knoebels and ride Phoenix since people talk about the coaster so much.  I just have one question, how was the progress of the Flying Turns coming along?
