"The wave pool and other pits are being filled in to prevent water-filled hazards. They will not be covered up with dirt," Innes said. "This procedure has been reviewed and approved by the Bainbridge zoning inspector."

That's not just a landfill!!!!!!
It's a Special Home, albeit sort-of underground, to store things for safe keeping. think about it: If it takes plastic ten thousand years to breakdown in a landfill, look at it as a CF Time capsule.
