Whats bad: -when you log in it takes you to the front page instead of redirecting you back to te page/post you were on. -load/post times are looooooooong, which i believe causes multiple posts from people hitting the submit button a few times to "mkae it go faster" -that damn image verification 'security' feature that just got implimented is by the the most annoying thing the webs have ever spawned.  I understand what it is for but do we actually get that much spam posted here? Whats good: -it's free?!? Please, send me a private text, I'de gladly help out with new forum software/server space. -pat

They run quite a bit faster and are able to use better security measures. I run my forums with Simple Machines. They also have different themes each person can use custom wise. There was a lot of spam bots registering, about three to four a day. I delete them as necessary. The verification feature Ill agree is a pain. I have my browser set to automatically remember my login/password, but obviously you can't do that for random letters and numbers. I also hate the invisible Classmates.com ads I get occasionally. The feature is put in place for network stability. Its sole purpose is to prevent bots from spamming forums and slowing down other forums. The classmates ad is annoying as can be.  Unfortunately, mine is NOT invisible and often blocks what I'm trying to read.   Whatever.  I think the freepowerboards software is fine, yes, the page loads are a little lengthy but oh well.   For free, it's a deal.  And oh my!  What traffic we've generated!  I'll bet the ad server guys are happy!

Our host does allow PHP and SQL but I am not sure what the difference would be if I hosted it or its hosted remotely as it is now. I understand it would obviously be easier with a GLT URL, but my guess is everyone has it as a favorite or knows it by now. In any event the main page gets hit by search engines and anyone can easily find the forums from there. Freepowerboards does what I need, they back up daily and have been able to fix things without me even knowing their was a problem and having to get involved. Anyone that has hosted their own PHP board knows the problems that can arise, I personally have no time for that and these forums fill the bill. _________________ GL's demise was caused by one mans foolish greed. I've done it before, but the spam bots can really get annoying. Plus he's right people now have this is a favorite and throwing it off key might be a problem.
