· Quote

I found this picture of me and I'm wondering if anyone can tell for sure where it's at. It's dated 8/62 and it had to be from the summer of 1962.

It has to be from N.E. Ohio as well, that's the only place we are at in 1962. LOL

I hope this is a proper posting as I've been curious and I know there are some here who really know their N.E. Ohio coasters.

I can tell you a few coasters I don't think it is.

Big Dipper - because it was white in 1962
Chippewa Big Dipper - it was also white
Euclid Beach - you could not drive up that close to any coaster there
Cedar Point - they didn't have any coasters in 1962

In 1962, that does leave Summit Beach...  I know they closed in '58, but how long were things up before demolition began?

Could that be Idora park?  Idora Bill might be able to tell better than I, but I cant think of what else would be left except that or Summit Beach.  (Summit Beach before my time)

I finally made it over to my moms. See if this makes sense.

She says that she is almost certain that it's Euclid Beach. She says that the car is not ours (it isn't) and that it is likely a car that was in the park for some reason.

I was thinking it might be Idoras Jack Rabbit, but I am not sure there were any walkways near the smaller hills like I see in that picture.

It could very well be the Aero Dips at Euclid Beach which were demolished in 1965. It looks like you would have been facing the beach with a walkway behind you and the coaster. I don't recall cars being allowed on the lake walkway path but then again I don't remember much about EB before 1966.

You are in Gloria Glenns, Ohio, facing east, sitting on the lawn of one of the cottages with one of the access roads in the background. This road also doubled as the means for grounds crews to gain entry to the south end of coaster and the picknick grove which was behind it, closer to the lake.

I never heard of the place but I'll ask my mom if she is aware of the place.

My mom did mention that we would go to EB quite a bit as we lived on Euclid Ave just short of downtown.

She did say that we would generally just go to the beach as with many young couples my folks didn't have much money to spend on the rides, so coasterdads story fits also.

Pretty cool that you knew that coasterowner.

Welcome back, and best wishes.

So that's the Chippewa Dipper?

Neat to see it in one piece.

It could easily be Chippewas Big Dipper. Cars were all over that place and as you can see by the picture it was easy to drive near.

Another possibly is Meyers lake's Comet.

I believe it is at Chippewa. I went by there the other day and can get this close to the dipper. It looks to be about the same area. I tried to add a photo but the image thing comes up unable to add because of an internal error. Anyone else have this issue?

While I can't guarantee your location, try this;
Go to www.maps.google.com. Type in Big Injun Trail, Gloria Glens, Ohio.
When the map comes up, zoom in. This Trail still exists and has cottages on it. The area between this Trail and the lake is where the park is. The coaster goes north and south and abuts the trail. Your back is to the trail and you are on the east side of it, facing east. As to the paint on the coaster, the only areas that were painted were the ramp, platform, canopy and the tunnel on the lift hill. The other areas were plain wood. CCA treated lumber hadn't been invented yet. If you go to the aerial view, the backward -7- in the lake is the boat dock where Miss Chippewa was kept for rides. It was a Chevy powered Chris Craft speed boat.
Again, no promise, but I believe this is where you are. Main Dr. off Lake Rd. was the entrance into the park.
