I don't believe this, and this article has several mistakes (sets GL closing as 2006, Dubai as "Dabai" in the title), so if I worked there I would not be worried about this particular rumor. But since this is the rumors section, here it is:
Wildwater Kingdom is not reopening in 2009 according to a rumor buried in a Coasternet article mainly about a delayed coaster in Dubai:
http://www.coaster-net.com/newsandreleases.php?action=displayitem&newsid=969
"However, Geauga Lake Water Park, after closing its "dry park" in 2006, will not open in 2009 due to financial difficulties."
Cedar Fair filed documents with the SEC today that indicate Geauga Lake's Wildwater Kingdom is one of their parks, and there is nothing about it closing in the local media or anywhere else. The WWK website is still up and indicates that "Wildwater Kingdom operates May 23 through September 7, 2009."
Like I said, I don't believe it, but I have learned the hard way that sometimes the very worst Geauga Lake rumors can turn out to be true.
I hope if Cedar Fair ever does close it, they give people one last chance to walk around the last operating remnant of Sea World and Geauga Lake, ride a few waves, buy some merchandise and get some pictures. _________________ "It's a very special ride. Interesting, I have learned that almost all rumors have a hint of truth in them. Is 200,000 guests enough to keep a park operating? Isn't WWK open only because GL was still kind of there? So maybe not 2009 but 2010?
And I would have never believed Xflight was leaving until I saw the truck, but GL closing down for good? Who would have ever believe that??!! _________________ GL's demise was caused by one mans foolish greed.

It would not surprise me if they did close it. Stand alone seasonal water parks do not do well around here.
(As you see I stress "stand alone"). _________________ On September 21, 2007, a historic 119-year old amusement park had been secretly murdered. Never forget it. |

This will most likely be the last season for WWK! I'm sure of that, as this
situation has not gotten any better in the past years! We all notice the patterns of Dick Kenzil and CF, they just don't care for the customers and that will be there downfall. Especially in the situation that the economy is in right now. Can anybody say "KENNYWOOD" cause thats where I will be this year. _________________ (ACFG)Anti-Cedar Fair Group |

So the WWK closing is merely a rumor? |

I think it will be after this season. I said it before and I will say it again. There is nothing that shows Cedar Fair has any interest in making this park thrive! They have added absolutely nothing in the years since Tidal Wave Bay opened. They have in fact subtracted, while driving the price to something rediculous.
They may try and sell to another operator but I cant imagine anyone in this economy interested. _________________ Rob G. - Sea World Ohio and Geauga Lake Fan.

Mark it down as a false rumor as to the start of the 2009 season. Whether it gets to 2010 is another story entirely.
I hope it does, but the legacy of all that has been removed since 2000 is a heavy one to carry. _________________ "It's a very special ride. We want to make sure it has a proper home." Cedar Fair Spokesman Innes on Big Dipper, 12th oldest roller coaster on Earth. |

I hope nothing happens to WWK. But this *is* Cedar Fair we're talking about here, so nothing's a given. |

Just ask someone there, there will without a doubt tell you the truth. If you tell them you heard WWK is closing they will tell you its a fabrication made up by kids on the Internet. _________________ GL's demise was caused by one mans foolish greed.
