LOL.
Does going thru your second childhood count? Sometimes i feel a thousand years old.
Nah, they won't close WWK. They'll just put it to sleep like they did the other waterpark for several years...

WWK is opening for 2010. It's doing great as people realize WWK is still open but just the rides are gone. _________________ 2009 - Cedar Point - Giant Wheel Tri/Blue Streak

Closing rumors of WWK closing can put to rest. Now they need to some expansion if they can only fit 5000 people with staff. Time to add more attractions and build on. They have a big parking lot lets have it filled. _________________ 2007- Skyscraper Triangle crew 5/18/07-5/28/07

Where was it made official that WWK is opening for 2010?
I'm glad if they are staying open. I had a great time the other day, and that park was PACKED! Almost too packed. They absolutely need to expand. I heard more than one person comment on how small the park was and how they need more stuff. Perhaps another wave pool, water coaster, more thrilling water slides. Although Liquid Lightning was a blast! I see no reason why they shouldn't expand. |

I too am curious as to where this was made official. Have they begun selling passes for 2010?
As I said in another thread WWK needs to really live up to its name as "NE Ohio's premier waterpark". Without new attractions its not. They have plenty of room...expand already! We all know of a few waerparks that have closed recently or will soon beclose......even CF parks, there is a lot of good used stuff to be had, although brand new would be nice also.
Right now WWK is a few notches above the better municipal pools like Solon and Beachwood. _________________ GL's demise was caused by one mans foolish greed.

Well isn't it obvious with the 2009 improvements that it would be re-opening? The parks usually don't start selling next years passes until September/October.
I even had the privilege of talking with Colleen. I noted how well the park seems to be doing and she agreed. I can't go into details about what I know but I will say this, as more people are realizing WWK is still there, they come. Cedar Point was even marketing WWK again this year in an insert with the park map that you get at the toll booth.
I too am hoping they expand more. Like possibly adding what we didn't get in the WWK Phase 2. _________________ 2009 - Cedar Point - Giant Wheel Tri/Blue Streak

The improvements that were added helped the park this year. The very few improvements that is. They only added a little tike's area and the area where the stadium was. The former bridge is being used as a party place. As a young adult I dont really see that as good improvements. They could of at least put in mini golf where the old stadium was. As many people do or dont know that the park has a one corn hole along with a horseshoe pit and volleyball court. When I was there I really didnt see anyone using them.
I have read reviews on WWK. www.tripadvisor.com People said that they need to fix Inter tube and raft situation. People said that our park is cleaned and is well maintained. There were comments on saying that the park is better than kings island with the water temperature. People would rather come to a water park that has warm water than cold. People actually enjoy our park. All the comments are the usual stuff nothing out of the ordinary.
Now for the buildings that aren't apart of the park. They could add some more dining faculties. I know the park map says that no prizes are allowed on the rides but maybe they could add some games to the park. Since that rule could apply.
Additions: These have probably have been said to be added to the park but I will say them again. Bring in a Flume ride. There is a water coaster for sale that could be added that people would come to if it were at the park. They could also put in some speed slides and a black whole like pioneer has.
According to coasterbuzz "Phase 2 includes a huge 38,000 square foot wave pool, relocation of shark attack slides, a brand new slide tower with all new slides, a new regular lazy river, a children's pool in the middle of it, and at the foot of the lake, an adult area with huge whirlpool spas, waterfalls, and a swim up bar. In 2006 WWK will be one of the largest waterparks in our country."
Now that is what you call a premier water park. Add the indoor park then people might not really care about amusement park. lol
Bring on phase two and build an indoor water park. _________________ 2007- Skyscraper Triangle crew 5/18/07-5/28/07

Sorry to disagree here, but the 2009 improvements amount to very little and prove nothing about WWK's future. These few "improvements" are a last ditch effort to get a few more guest into the park while touting improvements which really amount to nothing. As you might remember GL had small improvements like Corn Hole and the basketball game in its last year and we all know what happened there. Plus, Robin Innes has already stated that WWK will receive nothing new next year. With all the land for sale around the water park its obvious that CF doesn't want it to succeed.
Colleen knows how may times Dick was at the park this year and last and hoping that someone would want to buy it.
I feel that WWK is s nice water park but needs much more to compete in today's economy. I can tell you CF does know about some used rides for sale, I am hoping they have the sense to buy them and install them into WWK and make the place a destination attraction. |

Well, it is possible that they might close no matter what we hear , but I am pretty confident that they will remain open.
They have some of the highest trained and hardest working lifeguards around (awards and all), the newest facilities, and help CF compete with Kalahari and other waterparks like that.
Also, a rumor I heard from quite a few of the lifeguards including their supervisors was that they would be looking to bring in another attraction for next year. They have had quite a few 5000+ crowd days. Also, the weather this year has not been that great. August was the best month, and that is already late into people's summer vacations. I think next year they are hoping that at least the weather picks back up to normal temps. It was a relatively cool and rainy June and July. |

This is true. If you want to train lifeguards, put them through the WWK program. Even Soak City's lifeguards don't compare to WWK's. They are the best lifeguards in the entire company. _________________ 2009 - Cedar Point - Giant Wheel Tri/Blue Streak

I googled it and went to www.italintl.com. Never found out where they are from. Who knows how accurate those sites really are. _________________ 2007- Skyscraper Triangle crew 5/18/07-5/28/07

This comment by the CFO in the last quarterly conference call on August 4, courtesy of Seeking Alpha, strongly suggests Wildwater Kingdom will be back in 2010.

Peter J. Crage
"We're actively trying to sell about 700 aces right outside of Cleveland, the site of the old Geauga Lake amusement park. Again, we've had some offers on that but they were way low and we feel it's more valuable than the offers that we've had on it. It's on a lake. We do have a small water park on one side of the lake that's doing very well for us this year. Again I think if economic conditions and the state of the economy in northeastern Ohio that prohibited at this time from getting too much interest on that property but again when the economy turns around hopefully we can divest of that excess land as well."
I was glad to hear that Wildwater Kingdom is "doing very well." I would feel a lot better about its long-term future if they do add something substantial.
This report from August 9 sounded good too:
"The heat did not keep thousands of Browns fans inside and the 93-degree day brought out a big crowd to Aurora. 'It's the hottest day of the year and the busiest day of the year,' said Colleen Murphy, general manager of Geauga Lake's Wildwater Kingdom. 'We live for days like this.'"

Finally, The SeaWorldOhio/Geauga Lake/Six Flags/Wildwater Kingdom former employee reunion on August 15 was a nice gesture, if they do it again next year they might get even more people as word gets out.
Did anyone go to the reunion?
