Ozzy, very sorry to hear about your family's loss, our thoughts are with you and your family.
Not that this matters much right now, but down the road let us know and we will make arrangements to show you some of the pictures of the exhibits and video of the event, if you would be interested in that. |
THANKS FOR CARING TO ALL ABOUT MY UNCLE.
AND I WOULD LOVE TO SEE SOME PIX AND MAYBE SOME VIDEO"S OF THE MEETING AS WELL. THAT WOULD BE SO NICE TO SEE |

I would also like to thank everyone that came out and donated their time to help setup and bring their memorabilia. It was also great to finally meet many of you. I think I can say that the event was better attended than we expected, standing room only was a nice thing to see. A video and many pictures were taken. I will post a few pictures soon, and maybe we can show the video at a future meeting.
I wanted to address a complaint from an attendee who wrote on another forum that there was no offer of any plan of action. This person unfortunately arrived 30 minutes late and did not get to hear Dave’s introduction which explained what the entire event was for.
As was mentioned in all press releases preceding the event, the organizers respect the fact that Cedar Fair owns the land that the Big Dipper owner owns the ride. There is a fine line between expressing support for preserving it and coming across as trying to impose a specific plan on the two parties that actually own the land and ride. Given the circumstances, we achieved the goal of demonstrating interest in and support for preserving the ride
Many important connections between key groups and individuals were made at the event. There clearly is local support for preserving the Big Dipper. People who met for the first time today may play a part in making that a reality down the road. _________________ GL's demise was caused by one mans foolish greed.

It was UNREAL!!!
The local paper (The Vindicator) had the wrong time as Katie stated and they also screwed up and printed that there would be free food. There had to be over 500 people that showed up! I would guess that maybe 150 of them where there for Idora and the rest of them for free food.
We ran out of everything! It was total CHAOS! 100 hot dogs, 80 hamburgers, maybe 6-8 cases of soda and 3-5 #10 (the big ones) cans of baked beans. We had 3 fryers for Idora fries and could barely use 2 because we kept tripping the circuit breakers. Even with only 2 fryers we couldn't turn on the lights in the kitchen or the breakers would trip.
Again it was NUTS!
If anyone ever wants to get people to an event have the local paper put it on the front page and mention free food. The people will show up like you never imagined! _________________ Cedar Fair is an ignorant company! |

We went to the Town Hall Meeting, and it was great to meet many of the people on this site! The event was very well organized, and we learned alot. Howard Gillooly gave a presentation on how other historic coasters have been preserved, and it gave us hope! Great job by all the presenters and organizers. |

Great photos, thanks for posting those!
Again, I was just one of several event organizers, I just happened to be the most visible, a lot of people deserve credit for planning, promoting and participating in this event. Thanks to everyone who helped and attended.
And to clarify about stuff being sold - all that I was aware of was the Aurora Historical Society's Big Dipper ornament and also books were available for purchase from the two guest speakers who have written books, something that I think people appreciated having the opportunity to do. Someone asked me a while back if someone they knew could sell some Geauga Lake stuff they had, I said no, the event was not for that. That being said, if someone saw something they liked and someone else was willing to sell it, that is great, I have no problem with that (but did not get the sense there was much if that going on, most of the folks displaying stuff are collectors who are still looking for stuff to buy, lol). Just wanted to make it clear the organizers had nothing for sale, and in fact spent money to make the event happen. |

It was great to be there. Mr. Jacques's imagery really put me back into the park, Mr. Futrell's presentation was facinating not only for the number of pictures I haven't seen before, but the numbers he provided, and Mr. Gillooly really gave hope that something can be done.
It was also great to meet many of you that I didn't have the opportunity to back in September. I apologize to have not getten there early enough to help setup, but I was glad to help clean up afterwards. |

Sorry I couldn't make it to the meet up, but I have a business to run. If I wasn't so busy all the time I would be to all the meet up's. I'm going to try and make it to the GL sell this saturday with my wife and kids, but I know I won't much time that day to stay long, hope to see some of u there. _________________ (ACFG)Anti-Cedar Fair Group |
