The Schlitterbahn folks eventually removed what was left of the ride. They took the track apart piece by piece presumably for parts. I don't think it will be reconstructed, but you never know. The cars are all over the place, they weren't all purhcased by one single person. _________________ GL's demise was caused by one mans foolish greed.

crystal beach used to have the best log ride, the themeing was the best, they actually had half the ride in the air so after you went up the hill you got to do a few turns, they used the same hill for the 5 waters slides which was the water park at the time. It was full with trees over the track an everything.
the martins fantasy island log ride is a soaker, it dont matter where you sit, you will get wet, few miles down the interstate tho darien lake has a log ride and its not a soaker. |

As a former TL on the "Gold Rush" I can share with everyone that in the 80's and 90's the log ride was the most challenging of rides to operate at Geauga Lake. There were certain areas it was difficult to view the boats, one in particular being the high lift. I recall the pressure and need to be completely focused at all times when working controls in the high tower. Keeping boats spaced properly, monitoring for flooded boats and trying to pull them off-line quickly, watching for system discrepencies...lets just say it burned out crews pretty fast.
One interesting piece of trivia: "fluming" was what the ride operators use to do on particularly hot days. Once the ride queue was run out and the boats were parked in the station the ride crew would jump in the flume in front of the control tower and float down the flume to be caught and pulled out by the maintenance deck prior to the turn leading in to the low-lift. The water wasn't always the cleanest coming directly from the lake back the but it was a great way to cool off! |

I loved the wait for that ride! I would have a blast picking at the paint and peeking through the holes of the station while I would wait! And on many days it was a long wait! _________________ Life is like a rollercoaster. It is full of ups and downs! |

What year was the photo cam removed? I am sure it either was moved to a new location to produce more revenue or it had to do with staffing issues. |

the gold rush was my favorite ride to work on when i was a ride mech , the hardest part to that ride was to keep the big lift hill belt running straight and the roller bushings in place. we upgraded the safety of the ride in 97 by making it all automatic with photo eyes to space the cars and try to keep the boats from bunching up at the bottom of the big hill .in 95 we put in a filter system to try and clean the water up a little but found that it did nothing more than give us more work so we just added more blue color to the water . i also spent many nights after hours fiberglassing the flume because of damage caused by boats missing guide wheels . the ride was alot of work and had problems but i loved it ,to me it was like a wooden coaster it had its own little ways and changed daily and that made it special. |
