Big Dipper, without question.

When my (then-wife-to-be) and I rode the coaster in 2003 (or maybe 2002, I honestly can't remember), we thought it was horrible.  Fortunately our friends convinced us to go back a few years later and it was one of the best wood coasters I had ever ridden.  It was smooth, fast and loaded with airtime.  And how could anyone not love those old cars with lots of seat padding and minimal restraints?  It will be a crime if the Big Dipper never again operates.

Definitely between Dipper and Villain.

Sadly, we might not get to ride Dipper again. I hope to hell I am not wrong, but in the pit of my stomach it tells me no way.

I still hope though.

I miss them all.  All the coasters and even watching my kids smile after a ride on the Beaver Land Mine Ride.

The only one I dont miss I have to admit is Texas Twister.  I hated the restraints on that thing!

hello i am new to this site but have been reading it since i heard the park was closing and found it . the park has many memories for me and my family from when there was a little train that went around the dipper to 2005 when i moved to florida . there is no way a person could have just one favorite ride because as the years went on and the park grew so did the rides , memories and fun . i remember when the sky scraper went up and was so excited to go that far up in the sky and see what i thought then was the world and to ride the double loop for the first time and go upside down wow what a rush . i have went to the park since the early 70s and watched it change and become what it did and always begged to go back as a child only to grow up and hear my kids want the same . i worked at the park in the 80s as a game op and then in the 90s as a ride mech for 4 years . my baby was the gold rush , i loved it and worked on it and was proud of a ride that was put up in the 70s and still have an hour or two line in the 90s . rides i remember and loved well that list pretty much covers them all from kiddy land ( before rainbow island and turtle beach ) to the western village . its sad that it is gone and when i go up to ohio in june i will go by the park and say goodbye to a old friend .

Welcome to the site chillywill!! There are so many great rides to choose from. I remember waiting in those hour long waits for pepsi plunge. It always seemed 15 degrees hotter in the  shed!

Hello ffejie and thank you ,ya it was the Pepsi plunge but was changed to the cuyahoga county river run in 95 when Coke cola got the account at the park and Pepsi lost it . that's like calling the ya hos the hay maker or the enterprise the silver bullet i liked the old names better . i was working there when we tore down and filled in the canal that was once the big ditch ride to build the serial thriller and did allot of work on Mr Hyde's when it showed up on truck trailers from a park in new jersey ,i also helped build grizzly run and wrote my initials in the still wet concrete in tunnel 1 . if there are any of the old ride mechs on this site from 94 to 98 give me a line . to this day i miss working there an talk about it allot but as my family grew i had to move on , Larry,Dave ,Tom ,Tony ,Carl , stick Dan ,Rick and the rest where you at .

I remember the number for the Wave(1-800 the WAVE) that was cool. I still say the original WAVE was the best concept for a wave pool.  They could have it again but update it.  Have one large 6 foot wave followed by the smaller ones for a short period.  I think that would be great for everyone.

This past weekend would have been ideal for a day at the Lake. It probably would have been opening weekend if the park was still around.

· Quote

I don't think I have cried over an amusement park like I have Geauga Lake.  Ever since I can remember, my family went there every year.  My grandfather was an employee of East Ohio Gas company and they had their yearly picnic at Geauga Lake.  I can remember my parents driving over the big hill and my sister, brother and I would have to see the SkyScraper needle first.  If you lost you got punched!! I was the youngest so that hurt a lot.  I remember planning out the rides that I would go on.  But when I was little and just spent my time in the Kiddie Park and the water stuff, I rode the turtles which coasterdad gladly posted a photo of (thank you for that memory) and the damn wave.  That thing caught me under water so many times and cut my knees up EVERY year.  It was totally worth it.
I remember my sister and brother singing "I Just Called to Say I Love You" at the recording studio and I sang "Achy Breaky Heart".  We still have both cassette tapes.  My father actually put my recording on a CD for my birthday 3 years ago.
But the rides I miss the most is the Log Ride, Double Loop, and the Big Dipper.  The Big Dipper was my first ever roller coaster and I remember getting on the ride by myself and I was scared to death.  But I definitely got on again and again.  I can remember the Double Loop sitting in the seat, nervous, making sure the bars were locked and then slowly rolling down the hill when the ride announcer said "See ya in 90 seconds".  That is a memory I will never relive again.  And that is the saddest thought ever.  And then the Log Ride....no matter how cold it was...my family made it a point to get on that ride together.
It was Geauga Lake.  It was a small, well laid out park with great family values and worth the trip every time. I dream about it and I want it back so badly.  I am too fat to ride all of the rides at Cedar Point so I don't even go there.  What is the point? $80 to ride the train around...it isn't worth it.  Thank you for having this website, thank you for letting me relive the memories, and Geauga Lake...I miss you, I miss the summers, I miss the pavilions right next to the Double Loop.  I miss everything.

I miss the whole park. The Dipper and Carousel,  both of which should be operating in NE Ohio.  The Villian should never have been sold for scrape.  This coaster was only a few years old.  A greedy old bastered want the demise of Gl and a board of directors give him what he want.  You notice now of the adult rides where kept in ohio.   Send them out of state with a new name and those people will think it is a brand new ride.  May the greedy old man have a lesson taught to him.
