| I have been reading all the points in this topic and I know we are all in agreement that that it is not fair what is happening to our park. I was happy to see that channel 5 heard about what is happening. I hope that if we keep making lots of noice then Mr. Cedarfair will hear us and know that we want our rides to stay in our park!!! Also that we want to see good things happening instead of the bad or nothing!!! Many of us were so happy that CF bought the park back . I know that I had great hopes that since CF is based in Ohio that they would want more people to come to Ohio to enjoy all three parks. Now I get the feeling that they only want us to enjoy being part of the rat race that are part of Cedarpoint and Kings island. Mr. Cedarfair reminds me of Mr Walmart. They both make me ill because they are so many hungry that all the smaller businesses are getting swollowed up. Pretty soon we won't have a choice on anything!! They will chose it for us!!! |
The sad reality though is that NewsChannel 5 can make as much noise as they want to, but the numbers don't lie..... Flat attendance for the last 3 years doesn't really make for a great convincing argument as to why certain rides might/ need to close, or be relocated to other parks that are performing.
I think the great mistake CF made when acquiring GL is that they underestimated the great potential for the park, by making it play second fiddle to CP because of it's relative nearness to Cedar Fair's "crown jewel".
In all reality there is plenty of room in the Cleveland market to support 2 parks that both pull over 1.2 million people a year, it's just that the TRUE Cleveland market (the one that either can't or does not want to drive 70 miles out west to wait 3 1/2 hours for a ride that lasts 2 1/2 minutes) is what CF has been wanting to pull for years. They turned Geauga Lake into the "low-price option", a Wal-Mart of amusement parks, for those that didn't want to make the drive out, and pay the higher prices at Point, and as an inevitable byproduct of such a situation quality suffered heavily as a result.
Oh, and to answer the question, Kennywood treats their guests fine. They attitude is more or less ambivalent. But when things happen, and they do , their GSR's are more than ready to accommodate the problem.
Just my 2 cents... |

Typically, Kennywood will hand out discount passes if the weather is dire and the park closes early.
As for Cedar Fair, it would be a disasterous business decision to close the ride side of the park, because not only is it the original side of the park, it is what attracts the majority of the people into Geauga Lake. I can assure you that Wildwater Kingdom won't survive if Geauga Lake didn't exist because the publicity of the park closing and economic damage will put a lot of suffering on the waterpark, which is still not complete and nobody from Pennsylvania or even in the western Cleveland area will want to travel there if Geauga Lake isn't there. In Pennsylvania, there's waterparks in Erie, one is being proposed for Kennywood and another possibly for Monroeville and Greensburg. In Ohio, specifically the Sandusky area, there's Soak City and Kalahari Resort, which attracts many people from the western Cleveland area and even the Toledo and Detroit areas. I don't know much about waterparks in other areas but that's what I know.
I'm sure Cedar Fair won't just close the park and sell the land unless a shopping mall developer or housing company offers a substantial amount of money for the land, which I doubt is going to happen. |

I know the reason why people in pa go to Geauga lake is that it is a water park and RIDE park in one. Plus it's low prices and a qualitity park. _________________ TOP 5 FAVORITE RIDES: 1.Maverick. 2. Waterparks don't do well in northern Ohio. The weather is never predictable. So the waterapark only stays open as long as the owner is willing to shell out the money to keep it operating. Look at Pioneer and Dover...both were probably the most popular waterparks back in the day along with Geauga Lakes old waterpark. Now look at them, it costs more to run them and the guests arn't comming through the gates to justify keeping them opersating. _________________ "Despite low attendence at Cedar Point Amusement Park, CEO Dick Kinzel decicded to close down its sister park, Geauga Lake, in hopes for more attenence." |

WWK is a HUGE HIT! Every time i go there its crowded as what! i think Indoor Water Parks are more popular in Ohio. GL could use one b/e once again, who want to drive to Sandusky to go to one. _________________ Top 10 Coasters: 1. Millennium Force 2. Maverick 3. Dominator 4. Shiekra 5. Beast 6. The John Wilkins thread was deleted by request.
Well, as for WWK, it is a big hit and very popular but a few weeks ago when it was a little cooler than usual, more people were on the rides side than in WWK. The park has to give it's guests more to do in case they get days that really don't warrant a dip in the water park. This is where rides come in. |

my family went to Geauga Lake yesterday too. I thought for sure with the weather and the long weekend it would be more busy. I know that the Texas Twister was up and running later in the day, but the loop stayed down along with the Gizzly run. I had a blast with my boys. It was also nice to talk to quite a few guest that were from out of town. The hit of the evening for me is to ride the Thunderhawk and the Dominator. When the sun was heading down, the lines were growing. That makes me feel good. I did catch Magic Mike. I liked the fact that he did many of his own tricks. It made for a neat show. All I know is that I am going to keep praying for the park and our rides to stay put so we can enjoy many more fun summer nights like I did yesterday!!!! |

Imagine your night with 3 to 5 more rides added. Like it was like 4 years ago. I still have a blast out there. I just got back from KW and I still think GL is better again with out those rides. _________________ TOP 5 FAVORITE RIDES: 1.Maverick. 2. Yup, Dominator lines down half the stairs (2 trains) ride opts asking "How was your ride" and LOTS of cheers. Packed midway near Plunge, Twister hurling riders around, full trains on the boomerang.
And this time, I did a little bit of people watching...
little kids running ride to ride all excited (flats midway in back)
Huge line for the Wheel
the ride opt having fun with kids on the Spider
kids young and old amazed by the sparklers and light-up swords
screams and cheers on big dipper and Starfish.
Good times!
When I signed in with My KI pass, there were lots of other KI passes there as well as some Dominion and Carowinds. |

^^ Yeah John sounds like a place you would want to close down. Seems like way to many people were there and they could have been at CP.
