· Quote

Okay... it's not a Trip Report (yet) but will be, my brother told me what he's getting me for my birthday: A trip to a theme park (without kids, wives, etc) so I can just enjoy myself away from everyone.

So help me plan where I'm going:

A) King's Island
B) Waldermere
C) Kennywood
D) Waldermere and Kennywood
E) Waldermere and the casino at Presque Isle

- I'd considered adding Lakemont but honestly the only reason I want to go there is because I really want to ride Leap-The-Dips at some point in my life.

(Yes, you may have noticed there's a local mega-park missing from the list above, that is an intentional exclusion - I'm not getting into it and don't want to start some kind of flame war.  Let's just say that even when someone else is paying for it I do not want to visit there - it has nothing to do with Geauga Lake, Kinzel or some kind of grudge.)

So... where should we go?

I'm going to have to second "D"...

Though, if he's ponying up for hotel too, why not Darien?  You can see how PARC is treating the place and go somewhere a bit further out that you couldn't day-trip...

As strictly an amusement park trip I am going to have to say D also. although Presque Isle can be fun if your into that sort of thing. Be careful when planning as Waldameer is not open on Mondays and the park doesn't open until 1pm. Depending on your time schedule I would throw in Darien lake also as its so close.

First of all. Happy Birthday, Bella! Cool  Second, I also agree with "D". Third, Coasterdad has a good point, I was at Darien a few weeks ago and had a very good time. Finally, if you do go to Lakemont, DelGrosso is only1/2 an hour away,(it's easy to hit both). Enjoy! Very Happy

If you really wanted to do a casino I would do Kennywood and the Meadows casino.
The Meadows is much nicer than Presque Isle, its HUGE and has all the newer machines.

I like the thought of D, but if you only have one day I would do either Kennywood or Waldameer. Contrary to an Internet rumor that was going around last year, you can have a full day of fun at either one. If you try to do both allow for a about a 2.5 hour trip between them.

Gates open at Kennywood at 10:30, rides are going by 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Either park would be several hours closer to you than Kings Island (a fine park though) and cheaper as well (across the board -- admission, free parking and food).

laneman brings up a good idea with the Meadows.  I haven't been to the new casino there, but their temporary one that I was at last year was nicer than Presque Isle.

Personally, I'd do either that idea or the Presque Isle/Waldameer idea.  Assuming this is a day trip, trying to do both Kennywood/Waldameer in a day is too much.  If its a two-day trip, then I'd do Kennywood one day and Waldameer/Presque Isle on the second.

Have fun no matter what.

Thanks Coaster 3:16.If you thought the temporary one was nice wait till you see the new one.It has double the amount of machines. Its so huge that when I go there with my wife we have to take our cell phones or else we cant find each other, lol. Its very "Vegas"like, newer machines you dont normally see in this area. They are even putting 24 bowling lanes downstairs.

Okay... considering Waldermere's opening time I think hitting both Waldermeme and Kennywood is out of the question... it is a one day trip and although my mom has offered to foot the bill for a hotel so we're not driving home dead tired from walking around a park all day, from what I've seen of Waldermeme's map I don't think there's enough there to entertain me for an entire day:

New poll:

A) King's Island
B) Kennywood
C) Waldermere + Presque Isle + Strip Club (heh)
D) But my nuts in a vice and make my brother pay for Cedar Point just because I've never riden Top Thrill Dragster and it's such a good ride it's worth waiting and dealing with the horrible Guest Relations at "that park".

Keep in mind:

1) Everyone keeps talking about "machines" at the casino at Presque Isle... I play table games - if it's all slots I'll be more bored than I was standing in line for 3 hours to ride Millenium Force.
2) I like the flats but love the coasters.
3) We're going on a Sunday in late August (maybe a Saturday but right now it looks like Sunday)

Since you like tables only, you would have to go to a West Virginia casino,Pa. dont have tables yet.

You could go to Mountaineer casino in Chester WV,it would be sort of on you way back if coming from Kennywood to Ohio.

Another option for tables is just an hour and 15 minutes east of Waldameer ar Seneca Allegany Casino in Salamanca, NY.  It's an Indian-owned casino and it's one of the nicest in the area.  It also has a hotel, but rates have been rather pricey lately.  Their selection of slots is average, but since you're a table player, you should have no trouble finding something you like there.  If you get hungry, the food in the second-floor Cafe is outstanding.

I would vote for Kennywood. It is the one park where when a ride is ending and they are saying "please stay seated until the ride comes to a complete and final stop and enjoy the rest of your day here at . . . " that I repeatedly catch myself waiting for them to say "Geauga Lake."

Good 5 coaster collection and some classic flats, and half the distance and/or cost of some of the other options. I am sure choice D has its many pluses but I will leave that to another poster.  Arrow  Mr. Green

As much as I like Waldameer, Kennywood would probably be your best bet. It has many great flats, great coasters, and tons of other pluses like free parking and great food.

TTD at that other place is a great ride, but not worth the 2 hour plus wait. I would rather take 5 rides at KW in that time then waste that time in line.
