I hope this is not true, but a relative from VA told us on July 4 that Cedar Fair is trying to buy Bush Gardend Williamsburg. I beleive they will do the same thing they did to Geauga Lake if this is true. I also think that they could not afford this park. Geauga Lake was killed by a greedy old man and a crooked board of directors |

Whether it would be a good thing or a bad thing, I don't see them being in the financial shape to buy parks right now. They are trying to sell several and are coping with serious debt issues as it is. |

Are you trying to say that they would buy bgw and sell off or move the rides to get rid of percieved competition? That sounds so fimiliar.
I would hate to see another beautiful park with character removet to promote a concrete jungle.
I have never been to bgw, but by Rayp's pics, it looks absolutely beautiful. I won't be able to go to bgw for a while and would hate to see it go away especially before I get to go!! |

That will not happen. If BGW gets sold it will be a package deal to include BGA and the Sea World parks. CF is in no financial shape to buy it. _________________ On September 21, 2007, a historic 119-year old amusement park had been secretly murdered. Never forget it. |

Were they in financial shape to buy Paramount? It's the American way borrow, borrow, borrow, crap bankrupt!! Oh well the tax payers will pay, and the company goes down and they cut jobs and pay to those left and the rich bastards just keep lining their pockets!!! And the "rules" let them do it again and again!!
Crap I went off topic, Sorry. now I'm " vented" and will not have another outburst like that.( well at least for another day or so) |

Oh no...a mediocre ride is being closed!! Time to start a boycott of Busch now. Who's with me?! _________________ I don't like a certain company so everything they do MUST be wrong, even if it's right. And that makes me look like a bigger fool.
Take a stand against coasters that hurt or kill people. Holiday World & Knotts Berry Farm, we are watching you! |

Big Bad Wolf was not mediocre. Has one of the best coaster endings I have been on! _________________ Katie |

^ Katie, it wasn’t “one of” the best, it WAS the best. The Wolf’s finale was the best finale on any coaster, and I don’t care if I haven’t ridden 80% of the world’s coasters. That final drop into those insane 110-degree swing outs was a feeling unmatched on any coaster. On my visit to The World’s Greatest Amusement Park (that would be Busch Gardens Williamsburg for those playing at home) last month, The Wolf was still giving a great ride. Not “mediocre”, not “painfully jarring” like some “insiders” may say… it was giving GREAT rides. Argue all you want , but because I said it is so, it is a fact. That’s just the way it works on coaster forums these days.
R.I.P. Big Bad Wolf. My current #1 steel will retire on top. Since I don’t rank a full Top 10 anymore, I’ll just pick Apollo’s Chariot as the new #1 once the Wolf begins its demolition.
And ironically, even without the Big Bad Wolf, BGW still offers an incredibly far superior experience to the overhyped Sandusky Flagship. _________________ http://rayp.smugmug.com |

Ray... agree entirely. If anything, intamin has taken the "out of control" feeling out of rollercoasters. There used to be a feeling of havoc. Now that is interpeted as "roughness".
Sissys.
This coaster was not the Iron Dragon or Flight Deck. It was a REAL thrill ride. Shame it's leaving.
As for this "cuddly" guy who's decidedly anything but...
Have you been to many parks? Ridden many rides? I used to believe that Cedar Point was the greatest place on earth. But then the paved every patch of grass, cut down 90% of the trees, and decided that bigger=better.
Busch Gardens is everything that Cedar Point SHOULD be. Maticulously manicured, themed, and every ride fits... and hits the mark. BGE may only have 5 coasters, but Apollo's Chariot, Griffon, Alpengeist, and Big Bad Wolf are far and away better than all but maybe 5 coasters at CP.
If you are so against everything discussed here, and feel that Geauga Lake "sucked", why are you here? Go to thepointol.com and argue about what color to paint Mantis with all the other children.
...and 700,000 people it's closing season is hardly an unsupported park. |

I too have ridden BBW this year and as Ray says it was giving the usual AMAZING rides.
There was a debate over on CB with one member saying how aweful it was and how his family couldn't handle it because it was so jarring thrusting riders around in their seats and into the restraints. WTF?!?! People who had JUST BEEN ON THE RIDE debated his assessment saying it was untrue; Putz of course came to his minion's defense. It was all BS, Wolf still gives great rides, PERIOD.
I think we all know Spain is going to be the new land area and a B&M flyer is in the works to replace BBW. I have mixed feelings. I understand with the demise of Arrow and S+S being silent anymore when it comes to building BIG coasters it must be tough to maintain these aging Arrow coasters. Yet, it would be nice to see BGW take an entirely new approach and build an El Toro clone of some sort to (a) offer some coaster diversity and (b) provide a new ride that can seriously compete with the Giga going in at KD. I don't think a flyer is the answer to part B, I would hold off on that until after a woodie or giga at BGW. |

I don't know that you'll ever see a giga at BGE. Williamsburg is already tight w/ height restrictions. Anything wooden would be amazing...
I'm disappointed with the thought of a flyer. They are just... well... bland. Fun and all... but it's soooo sweeping, and sooooo balanced... everyone I've ridden has been unsatisfying. Using the drop down to the water will add an interesting element to what ever they build, but I'm hoping hard against a flyer.
KD is accelerating the pace, on Cedar Fair steroids, swiping our Floorless and adding a giga... Busch Gardens won't participate in an "arms race", but will hopefully craft another amazing ride using the terrain and theming that makes that park special. None of their rides are the tallest or fastest, but they are all done well and for some reason seem superior to similar rides at other parks.
I was hoping for Greece personally, could have some cool Olympus/mythology themed rides.
Hopefully they do more with it than they did with Ireland! |
