How sad indeed, and to think in 2003 the park looked like this:

Saying bye-bye to Sea World was the demise of the area. _________________ I don't like a certain company so everything they do MUST be wrong, even if it's right. And that makes me look like a bigger fool.

Commenting on the lot is pointless if you don't know the date and time of the photograph. Was the park open that day? Was the photo taken before the park opened for the day? Too many questions to make a rational judgment on attendance. _________________ |

After re-reading, I did notice that "quotes" were used... so it may have been an attempt at humor.
If not, then I'll just file it alongside those ever-accurate traffic reports from that douchebag amusementpark7 last summer. |

Thanks for sharing those pictures! It makes me sad to see how a beautiful park like Geauga Lake was can turn into what it is now! What a waste! I miss Geauga Lake! _________________ Life is like a rollercoaster. It is full of ups and downs! |

That picture was taken in the early morning, but if you recall in 2003 the lot was packed almost every day, in 2004 it wasn't .
Sea World was an integral part of what made GL what it was. Six Flags did an admiral job of trying to keep SW alive and for the most part it worked. Then 2004 came along and we all know what happened. _________________ GL's demise was caused by one mans foolish greed.

Post a pic of WWK's parking lot today (when you read this) and if I can get my primary PC working I'll post a picture I took from on top of my friend's Winnebago on auction day.
I'll bet you even money there were more cars in GL's parking lot to NOT ride rides but walk through one more time than there are on any given day at WWK. I'll bet there were more people standing around to watch BD's auction than WWK has inside at any given time.
Water park the primary draw indeed. It might have had the highest draw at the time but they weren't there FOR the waterpark, they went to the waterpark to relax and catch some rays AFTER the rides... or (like me) to watch the girls catching rays while taking a break from the rides.

Amusementpark7. AP7. Now, that's a name I've not heard in a long time, a very long time.
Good old Amusementpark7 did not really like amusement parks and had not been to Cedar Point much in years, but could crank dense paragraphs chock full of all kinds of Cedar Point details at the drop of a hat (not to mention the traffic reports from the "Chaussée"). Started working in a Sandusky hotel at something like the age of 3 if you fit the stories together. Loved Cedar Point but sure did not like Mr. Kinzel -- said more than once it was time for Kinzel and Falfas to go, and disappeared forever into the winter night after ripping the appointment of Bart Kinzel as Carowinds GM.
Rock on AP7, wherever you are, and try to be nicer to the Kinzels, they have done a lot for your hometown. |

I think you may be right about more people being on the ride side than in the water park on auction day in June 2008 and the same was true of preview day. Their own numbers show WWK got less than 20% of the attendance in 2008 than the combined park did in 2007.
Whether that drop was miscalculation or expected, it does show there are a lot of potential ride customers out there waiting for future attractions in the area, whatever and wherever they might be. |

There is so much oppertunity for whatever is built there. It already has a "built in" customer base . what other business plan has that in this area? This area is dying for something to do that is close to home. Than you add the history aspect of the site. I wish i had just enough money to get something started over there. You would be bringing in BAGS and BAGS of cash in a very short period of time. Couly you imagine the good press you would get out of that? |

Ray P picked up on the sarcasm...
Look at the shopping center across the street, that lot is empty too. But someone mentioned that the picture may have been taken earlier in the day.
Some people need to not take every comment I make seriously. It will result in fewer grey hairs and less indigestion. _________________ I don't like a certain company so everything they do MUST be wrong, even if it's right. And that makes me look like a bigger fool.

Went by Geauga Lake today. It is sad to see the Big Dipper standing still on such a beautiful day. I donot know how full the water park parking lot was. I refuse to go down there. I did see 2 cars turning into the log. They could have been going to one of the homes back there or just driving around to see what the park was like. The few people that complaind abount the park knew when they purschase there home that the park was there. It would have been nice for CF to advertise GL has much has what there doing to the waterpark. They could have had the business but, they where having the group picnick switch to CP. This is a crying shame. I will always remember GL and hope a nice book is published about it |
