Okay, my primary PC blew up last night which gives me plenty of time to actually start work on the scrap book I've been meaning to put together for the last year... started work tonight setting 1972 as the goal of what I wanted to plan out... here's page themes of what I have so far (with pages dedicated to each):
I) Cover page made out of a GL bag
II) Aeriel Photo of GL (2007)
III) Brief History of the PArk
IV) Timeline of major rides / attractions
V) A letter I found sent from Geauga Lake to Orwell with a GL postmark
1) Train Station / Turn-of-the-century activities
2) Kent House / Hotel Grace
3) Swimming Pool
4 - 9) Big Dipper / Clipper / Rocket
10) Bi-Planes / Rocket Ships
11) Carousel (see below)
12) Skating Rink / Ballroom (see below)
13) The lake (pics of the boats that have sailed the waters)
14 / 15) Picnics (photos of company pics - most from the 1930s - 40s)
16) Monorail / Bel-Air Express
17) Sea World (hey, gotta recognize the entire area)
1 Antique cars (complete with pics of me and my grandmother)
19) Log Ride / Gold Rush / Pepsi Plunge / etc
Missing anything?
Okay... here's the reason for the post... can anyone help me out with a couple photos of high enough scan that I could take them to a PictureMaker or something and re-print them?
Some things I'm hoping to find:
-Train Station photos... sure, there's one on eBay but $99 for a postcard? I'll settle for a couple photos.
-(From above) more photos of the carousel - one page just doens't seem enough for such a landmark but I just don't have a lot of photos (especially olders ones) to include.
-(From above) more photos of the skating rink / ballroom especially olders ones. I have a bunch of skate decals from the rink and modern photos of the ballroom in somewhat disrepair but would love to have something "period" to include.
-I'm missing a page for 1970 when the Trabant and Spider opened... I have a postcard of the Trabant to use but nothing of Spider.
-I have nothing authentic from Sea World... a couple View Master reels but that's about it. If anyone has anything to sell let me know. I'm not looking to dedicate major space to this page, just want to recognize what was happening across the lake.
-I have no idea how it's happened but I have NOTHING of the mono-rail except a postcard or two.
-Dittos for the Log Ride
I'd really appreciate any help y'all can send my way, let me know if you have anything to share and I'll send you an e-mail where you can send scans.
I'll bring the scrapbook (or what's done of it) to the next meet-n-greet... it's already looking pretty cool and think you'll all love to see it all collected in (another) place.
Thanks in advance!!! _________________ Positions Held:

Welcome Mr. Wilt!
Based on the fact that you lived at the park from 1927 to 1934 I am guessing that you were related to one of the caretakers who lived on the property, I believe in the area where the Double Loop was later built in 1977. We would love to hear any stories you have about the park.
Ffejie is referring to an unofficial gathering of some of the folks who post on Geauga Lake Today and others who care about the park that is taking place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 7th at the Buffalo Wildwings restaurant at 18865 Giles Road, Aurora, OH 44202 (actually in Bainbridge Township). It is in the same shopping plaza as Target, but closer to Route 43, a short distance past the Geauga Lake park parking lot. The sole and single purpose of that unoffical gathering is to share memories of Geauga Lake and Sea World (and other parks). People there would love to hear your stories.
The November 7 get together is being discussed here:

Also , there is a CCC professor who is doing a documentary on Geauga Lake, I am sure he would love to hear from you, I copied his contact information from another discussion thread below.

Forum members in the Cleveland area...good day to you.
Since I can not create a new topic post, I must piggy-back on another string. My apologies.
My name is Joe Koskovics, and I am a producer at Cuyahoga Community College Television. I am trying to put together a nostalgia-based look back on Geauga Lake, with a focus on 1969 through 2001, although all decades will hopefully be touched upon.
I am looking for volunteers who have stories and home movies of Geauga Lake who are willing to share their memories about the park, the rides, and special memories.
If anyone would like to volunteer for the program, please contact me at Cuyahoga Community College, 2900 Community College Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44115 216-987-4686 between 9AM and 4PM M-F. My email is joseph.koskovics@tri-c.edu.
Thank you in advance.

People are going to continue to celebrate and commemorate Geauga Lake park for a long time to come, it is always good to talk to someone who remembers what it was like back in the 1920s through 1960s! |
