Its another water ride. I had a suspicion that they would add one since they took it out before they built maverick

..and its even called "shoot the rapids". You would think the "worlds greatest park" could come up with a better name? Oh well, I predicted it months ago.

Honestly I think they could have come up with something better. It looks as though you will get soaked twice! Another reason to use the overpriced family dryers they just put in.

Yeah the name is very lame (oh wait that rhyme's!)

Meh, I don't feel the need to jump into my car and head to CP for a rapids ride. Water rides is the worst thing. I don't like walking around a park soaking wet all day. YUCK!

Heres the direct link, also posted in News.
http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/rides/water/shoot_the_rapids.cfm

I LOVE the name... very retro.

The original 1930's Shoot the Rapids ride was retired some years later and a second "Shoot the Rapids" (and a very tame one at that) was built in 1969. The '69 Shoot the Rapids was removed when Cedar Point decided to build the larger, more exciting White Water Landing.

With this, History again mixes with modern times.

Maybe they should bring back The Rocket Ships, a Whip, A Bug, or another rides that were popular at the "turn of the century".

While its an OK addition, CP dropped the ball on this one.

^ The only way you could do that is if you offered a new themed section with multiple rides, like Lost Kennywood, or the Exhibition section at Silver Dollar City.

Nobody makes Bug's anymore... those were Mechanical nightmares. The Musik Express or Himalaya is today's "bug" , and are about as common as the old Bug's were.

Why does everybody think they dropped the ball? It's a pretty solid addition, and should be a real crowd-pleaser.

Here is a gathered list of Complaints in the past from The Geauga Lake Today Boards:
• Cedar point need to build more than just coasters
• There are too many red rides
• Cedar Point need a new Flume
• Cedar Point need more family rides
• Cedar Point needs more variety
• Kinzel has lost touch with what the guest wants
• Cedar Point is becoming a concrete jungle
• Cedar Point has no theming/has removed it

Looks to me like everyone of those Bullet Points has been filled with this ride alone. I guess there's no pleasing everybody.

There is no themeing with this new ride...no western theme, no mine theme. NOTHING of that sort.

I just said it was a waste of 10 million dollars. You could have built a GCII and a flat ride for that price. Sorry, I just don't buy that.

They took out a flume ride for Maverick and now spend 10 million for Intaride to come in and build a generic looking shoot the rapids ride. I won't be getting in my car to go and try it. I despise water rides. I don't like walking around the park all day soaking wet. No thanks.

I think Katie summed it up nicely. The ride is probably a good addition, but they already had a decent water ride, why couldn't Maverick have been built where the new ride is and left WWK alone?

I will probably ride it once, but it is not the kind of ride that demands repeat rides - unless its a SUPER hot day. I don't feel that getting drenched and walking around is that much fun, although they did find a new source of income by filling up those huge boats and making the suckers that just got soaked pay to get dry.

I know one person who will like it since its mostly a tame ride and has a low puke factor.

Sorry - again, I don't think it was a good way to spend 10 million, its not the kind of ride that will make people drive thousands of miles to ride. For a company as financially strapped as CF it was a very dumb move.

The theme is that it's consistent to the area. It should have Maverick-Style fencing and a queue to match. You'll see when it's built. Keith can only do so much with his renderings.

There's no point in comparing the cost of this to a GCII. The price goes up when you pipe in water and build splash pools and troughs. They also have to add electrical to that part of the island for the second lift. The ride system itself is most likely only around $6.2 Million.

I wonder if they have had any bidders on Chaos, yet. That needs to go.

Gee, maybe they should bring Big Dipper to Cedar Point and everyone can quit their bitching.

Yeah John, you hit the nail on the head with your second to last post.  Most of the people here won't be happy until Big Dipper is running again or when Dick Kinzel retires or when Cedar Point closes down...or any multitude of reasons.

Plus I can see how WWL was in the last of its life when I last rode in 2002, the tunnel was missing.  In some years before that, they had turned off the water trickle as you entered the tunnel.

To those that don't like Cedar Point's new attraction...hwo about a new idea...why don't you sue them because they didn't put in what YOU wanted?

More than you think Cuddy! But I would never want to see CP close for good.

hershey park has a whip, an it was a great ride for the whole family, my kids thought it was just awesome.

personally, i dont understand the ride, flume rides never seem to be very popular, wonderland took theres out years ago, and cp didnt seem to be missing anything when they took it out, its generally one of the smaller lines in any parks ive been to that have them, so why build what most people will see as a who cares ride.

i woulda been happy if they just did some re tracking and got the train to run all the way to the front of the park, so you didnt have to walk so dang far

I dunno, but John Peck is dead on in what he's saying.  The bottom line is that there is a new flume going in, most people are excited about it, and it will all be okay!!!  If you don't want to get wet, then don't ride.  See how easy that is?  Some people would bi*** if they were giving out $50  to everyone that rode it.  Get over, get on, and get out!

^But what I like about log flumes is that you don't get drenched like the other two at CP, Snake River and Thunder Canyon.  Flumes get you wet enough to cool you down, but your clothes are for the most part dry.
