I was checking the News Net 5 headlines this morning and low and behold they had an article about people spending less money at Cedar Point this year. I don't have the link but you can go to their website and read it. I thought it was rather amusing. |

WHAM - as obvious as it is that CF is going down in flames Cpboy tries to save the day.
Actually the statement that spending is less EVERYWHERE is not totally true, but with those CP blinders on I guess you don't read other articles or posts.
While CP and other outrageously priced attractions aren't doing so well many affordable family oriented attractions with rides and amusements like county fairs and smaller family parks are doing quite well and are seeing attendance increases, despite the "Great Recession" and "weather". Price it right, and they will come. Maybe CF and Parker should take note.

Cedar Fair to pair with Ca$hLand PayDay Loans to enhance guest experience
August 6, 2009 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –
Sandusky, OH: Cedar Fair, L.P., one of the country’s largest amusement park operators, announced today a partnership with Ca$hLand PayDay Loans to operate locations within most of Cedar Fair’s theme parks.
“We are very excited to begin what should be a long and prosperous partnership with Ca$hLand” said Robin Innes, director of Public Relations for Cedar Fair. “Now, guests who may be feeling the pinch due to the economic downturn can receive a payday loan up to $800, right on the spot!”
Ca$hLand is one of the nation’s largest and most respected “payday loan” providers. The new loan offices will be located at the main entrance to all of Cedar Fair’s parks with the exception of Geauga Lake’s Wildwater Kingdom and California’s Great America. Guests only need to provide proof of employment and have an active checking account to draw up to $800 against their next paycheck. The loan can then be paid back in several convenient installments (plus a nominal variable interest, monthly service fee, convenience fee, location charge, contract printing fee, and a fee that each park will assess individually) at any one of the chain’s convenient locations. It’s easy money and no hassle at Ca$hLand!
Ca$hLand founder and CEO Rip Meehoffer said “This is a tremendous opportunity for us at Ca$hLand to expose our product to a whole new audience. Guests who may need a few extra dollars to purchase a delicious hamburger or to pick up that Snoopy doll all the kids are clamoring for these days can now feel at ease that those few extra dollars are just a few steps away at the Cedar Fair Ca$hLand locations!”
Cedar Fair CEO Richard Kinzel added “It’s about time. As I walk among the guests at our theme parks, the one complaint I hear most is how expensive everything is. With the addition of Ca$hLand to the family of Cedar Fair parks, guests now have no reason to complain and no reason not to eat in our restaurants and purchase several souvenirs for the kids.”
Cedar Fair owns and operates most of North America’s amusement and water parks and also owns an indoor water park. The chain also has a management contract with Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park in northern California. _________________ http://rayp.smugmug.com |

Hahaha Ray, you're too good at those.
I was at Cedar Point yesterday and it was packed with teenagers. Probably a product of the deep discounts you can find. Which would explain why in-park spending is down, that and their prices have reached the point of turning people away. I know I left the park twice to get a bite to eat. |

I will be there on Monday and will make sure to help them out! I will buy dinner, lunch and want to buy a t-shirt.
Maybe some drinks from the vending machines too!
BTW, I heard they used the overflow lot again yesterday for the second or third time this month. I think CP is having a very good August. If they can have a good August and have the crowds they have had previous years for Halloweekends they should be ok! _________________ Cedar Point: The BEST amusement park on the planet for 12 years in a row!

Haha, Ray, if only people knew about the outrageous interest rates that come with those payday loans. |

For all I care it could be so crowded that guests are parking out in the middle of Sandusky Bay but if people are not spending in the park, which is where a good chunk of the park revenue comes from, it isn't helping them at all. _________________ On September 21, 2007, a historic 119-year old amusement park had been secretly murdered. I know when I go to the park, I spend very little if anything all! I know there are a few things I enjoy like their taffy for my husband, but I can't afford much right now! I even have to save gas to be able to get up there! _________________ Life is like a rollercoaster. It is full of ups and downs! |

Do you have a link to the story? I cannot find it on the website.
If you ask ANY park nowadays, though, they will tell you that in park spending has signifcantly shrunk.
This is a great excerpt from the last 2nd Quarter postings:
"Through the end of the second quarter our parks entertained 6.6 million visitors, average in-park guest per capita spending was $39.50 and out-of-park revenues totaled $36.6 million. This compares with attendance of 7.6 million, average in-park guest per capita spending of $40.45 and out-of-park revenues of $40.5 million through the second quarter of 2008"
Now where the average in-park spending is only down 55¢, it's the 1Million decline in attendance is what makes me a bit nervous... but there are a few things to consider, first-off, here were 39 less operating days in the second quarter of 2009 than in 2008, and also don't forget, that many areas did have rainier and cooler weather which impacted the waterparks moreso than in 2008.
I'm not willing to judge the financial aspect of the company at this time until we see what 3rd quarter numbers look like. That is the make-or-break-quarter.
Once attendance figures are averaged out, I believe you will see the average in park spending up even more significantly.
Aside from gas prices, the summers of both 2007 and 2008 were doing very well for many businesses and the markets were quite up.
Now, as far as the prices at the Point, I do think they have gotten out of hand. They will adjust if spending drops, though. |

Sorry I haven't been back to check on my own post but I had computer issues.
It figures that someone would immediately attack my post. I was citing a news article on Channel 5.
Furthermore, I COULD go to CP this Saturday and get in free (company picnic), but I am not wasting the gas to get there.
I'll go to the Portage County Fair instead. Less crowded and "family oriented!!!: |

^And you think County Fair food is properly priced?
I don't know what it is, but I can't bring myself to eat carny food. The occasional soda, sure, but not the food. When Kent had their Heritage Fest last month, I ate at restaurants where I new the food was safe. _________________ I don't like a certain company so everything they do MUST be wrong, even if it's right. A Country Fair? Those are disugsting in my opinion. Bad, expensive food, sticky, nasty rides and BORING. Those carnies creap me out too!!
Why you would go there over CP is something so beyond me. _________________ Cedar Point: The BEST amusement park on the planet for 12 years in a row!

Did I miss something? A Country Fair is a place to go and get gas, beer, and cigarettes. Maybe food if you've already had a few beers. Never seen a sticky nasty ride there. Maybe you like to slide through the soda fountain? Yes BORING indeed. As for carnies, that's just rude. I've seen some scary looking cashiers there but I would never call them carnies.
So why would I go there over CP?
To get gas before going to Kennywood!!! _________________ Cedar Fair is an ignorant company! |
