I think Kennywood's new coaster looks like fun and is going to bring new folks in. If they can finally get that highway project done, half an hour will be cut off the trip (not counting construction delays) and the place will boom.

Nice find John. This could almost be a separate topic. Another way to look at that is this:

North Ohio 2007 Cedar Fair Attendance:
Cedar Point: 3,120,000
Geauga Lake: somewhere between 547,000 and 700,000 plus (based on quotes from company officials and publicly released information)
Total North Ohio CF 2007 Attendance: between 3,667,000 and 3,820,000

North Ohio 2008 Cedar Fair Attendance:
Cedar Point 3,198,000
GL Wildwater Kingdom 110,000 (as above)
Total North Ohio 2008 CF Attendance: 3,308,000 (down -9.79 to -13.4%)

Now in the year of the great staycations, with no major other amusement parks in Northern Ohio, with $25 2008 tickets to Cedar Point for groups that had 2007 Geauga Lake picnics, and various new 2008 discounts, why is that 2008 Cedar Point number not higher?

I read somewhere that Geauga Lake was "redundant" and "in the exact same market." The reality does not seem to bear that out. I would think they probably expected more of a boost to Cedar Point's attendance in 2008.

Lest someone attack a straw man that I did not set up, whether or not that was a "good business decision" depends on a lot of factors, including costs to operate the Geauga Lake ride side etc. No venom intended, I just find the numbers interesting.

I think there is a potential market of at least several hundred thousand or more (remember Six Flags Ohio pulled about 2 million and Sea World about 1.3 million in 2000) for some Northeast Ohio entertainment options involving rides and maybe, just maybe, a roller coaster of some type.

Everything that has been reported here says GL's 2007 attendance was 800,000.

Since the KI purchase helped spur the GL closure (theoretically), I would go for whole-Ohio attendance.

CP does have old, classic rides. Magnum, Blue Streak, Cedar Creek Mine Ride, Corkscrew, CP & LE Railroad, and that's just naming a few.

Your joking right?
I might consider Blue Streak a classic. Maybe Wildcat for what it is but when it comes down to it Cedar Downs and the Midway Carousel are the only classic rides the point has.
Magnum a classic? Hardly. It's only 20 years old. Hey that must make AF123 almost a classic too!  Rolling Eyes

Don't forget, that back in the day MOST the rides operating at Cedar Point were owned by brokers or concessions, and it was Roose and Legros who started modernizing and buying their own rides and ending the partnerships with many of the Brokers starting in 1959.

So even though Cedar Point has been operating since 1870, the park basically rebuilt itself in the early 60's so rides like the Space Spiral, Train, Sky Ride, Turnpike, the older kiddie rides and the Carousels would be your "Classic Rides"

from the sounds of the coaster it will be similar to storm runner at hershey park, which i just came back from.

storm runner is what dragster should have been, i dont miss the extra 300 feet of height becasue its an actual ride not just an up down done.

was gonna go to kennywood this year, but hershey park beat it out, im thinking i may just go next year tho.
