Had a major urge to visit a park last week Friday so I took a few hours vacation from work and left early. I could either go to Waldameer(1.5 hour drive) or CP(1 hour drive). I decided on CP.
My son and I, who is 6, left around 4pm and arrived at the park at 5:30 due to several construction spots on 2. We purchased 2 night tickets and proceeded in. First up was the sky ride to get us to the middle of the park. He enjoyed looking at all the rides from the birds eye view. Once off, I took him directly to Iron Dragon, his biggest roller coaster to date. He thought it was rough, didn't have much fun on it, and I'm not so sure he is ready for the bigger coasters so this was our one and only coaster for the night.
We then walked towards Camp Snoopy, which is by the Gemini, for those who don't know. He bounced around the various kiddy rides in the camp for the next 45 minutes while I sat around, ate, drank some water and enjoyed watching him exit the ride and sprint for the entrance, just as I did as a kid. He really liked the 'Lolli Swinger'(or something like that). It's basically an updated 'Yo-Yo'...wider seats, you can seat 2 per swing, and more colorful theme. I did purchase a chicken wrap by the Boat Tour entrance once I confirmed they made it to order. It came with a bag of chips, $7 total. I felt the value was good considering it filled me up and didn't give me a sour stomach.
We left this area and headed towards Planet Snoopy, not to be confused with Camp Snoopy
On the way there, I did notice something that I remember from each of my visits, the unusual choke point by the bathrooms in front of Magnun. The area looks large enough but for some reason it's always bump and grind to get through here. Any ideas? No biggie...just an observation.
Planet Snoopy, first visit in here but eerily familiar. Most, if not all of the rides were 'relocated' from Geauga Lake Boomtown to this spot. While some say the area looks haphazardly arranged, I think the park did a nice job with the exception being the waterfall and small creek that is dead center in the space. It feels like too much, or something, and feel an open area here would accommodate all of the strollers and wagons. I crammed in to the "Bee Cups" and took a spin...literally. The buckets spun really well and the small size of the ride made for one out of control experience. The frog hopper was great too as the parents of the other riders were really in to it and encouraged their kids to put their hands up. On each bounce, we would say "WOOOOOOOOOOO" and the kids would follow. Great participation by all involved.
Side note, the best bathrooms in the park are located in Fist Aid in this area. The cleanest, brightest most air conditioned 'single occupancy' crappers in the place. Awesome!
From here, we headed through the arcade and to the original kid area of the park. All the classics you remember riding as a kid. I rode along on the water-tub ride and He had a blast on the Mini-Dodgems. I think this was here back in the day and remember riding it. The dodgems were his favorite ride. At this point, it was getting dark outside approaching 9pm. The kiddy section looks great as all of the rides have a million lights and there is something special about a park at dusk.
After a few more rerides in this section we headed to the Turnpike Cars. He loved driving me around the track so much we went right to the Old Fashioned cars next where he showed me how the car drove in 'Auto Pilot'. This would be our last ride and we exited the park right about 10pm.
I've been to CP about 6 times since 2000 and this was my first or second most favorite visit. The other time was on a Sunday in October during a Browns game. I rode MF as many times as my legs could get me up the ramp. This visit, I rode maybe 5 rides, ONE coaster, and had a blast! Frame of mind and good company count for a lot. As well as a few of the ride ops did a GREAT job with the kids and made it more fun for all involved. |

Your trip was more about your son than you. Looks like he had a grand ol' time. So where exactly IS Planet Snoopy? I love the Tilt-A-Whirl in Camp Snoopy. Your son is right about Iron Dragon...last time I rode it, it did feel a little bumpy, but on those lift hills, I could fall asleep, and see a snail beating us up the hill. Maybe the Mine Ride or even Woodstock Express would have been better choices?
And I love the Auto Pilot comment. Did he take his hands off the steering wheel to do that? _________________ I don't like a certain company so everything they do MUST be wrong, even if it's right. And that makes me look like a bigger fool.

Cuddy, Planet Snoopy is on the North side of the arcade. He did take his hands off of the wheel, much fun! We never made it to the back OR the West side of the park, otherwise I may have tried the mine ride. He rode Woodstock Express the last season it was operating at Geaguga Lake and he did like it. The trains on Iron Dragon felt like they were pulling and pushing against themselves the whole ride. Too bad the park no longer has a flume ride.
ffejie, that is exactly what I did and it worked out great!

Radius, I think you're confusing Woodstock Express with Roadrunner Express. WE was built at Cedar Point in 1999. RE or BLMR closed with the park in 2007 and is now located at Papea Park as Roller Coaster: http://rcdb.com/4288.htm
Woodstock Express is a fun little coaster. I rode it (since I didn't need to kidnap a kid like on Jr. Gemini) for the hell of it during a visit in 2001 or 2000. I was so amazed that they had an onride photo, that I got it made into a key ring. _________________ I don't like a certain company so everything they do MUST be wrong, even if it's right.
