This totally sucks....
I saw this posted on the KI Extreme forums. Looks like CF may be dumping the Nickelodeon license after all. I had hoped they would have reconsidered but they must have spent what little money they do have on the Intimidator license.
I guess we can all say goodbye to Nick Universe at Kings Island within the next couple of years. Very sad to even think about it since it was just renovated a few years ago. _________________ On September 21, 2007, a historic 119-year old amusement park had been secretly murdered. The Intimidator license didn't even cost a fraction of what the Nick License did.
But chalk me up as a little disappointed, Nick is much more marketable for kids, and I would have rather seen them axe peanuts instead and put Nick all over their parks.
I remember when a kiddieland consisted of smaller versions of a Parks Big rides and kids flocked to it regardless of a Million Dollar License or elaborate theme.
Long gone are the days of "Rainbow Island" and "Kiddy Kingdom" |

Now, I'm not a kid or a business expert by any means... but I have to say that this is going to be pretty detrimental to the parks affected. The guests of Kings Island seem to LOVE the Nick characters. I don't know who most of them are, but the kids were just ecstatic to see their favorites such as the Rugrats, Spongebob and the Fairly Oddparents in real-life.
Over at the Sandusky Flagship, kids seemed to know who Snoopy was (for the most part), but most of them had no idea who Lucy, Linus, or "the weird looking bald guy" was (I assume it was Charlie Brown they were referring to). I just don't know if this is going to go over too well... but as I stated in my opening line, I'm no business expert. Dickie K. and his Butt Kissers certainly know how to run a theme park better than I do. _________________ http://rayp.smugmug.com |

"How not to run an amusement park 101"... oh Good Grief!
You know, I've worked in the amusement industry a bit in my years and have become good friends with many folks who work really hard to provide a safe, fun and memorable experience for guests, (designers, inspectors, owners) and some of these comments I'm reading on these boards lately just seem like pointless attacks with no real ground to stand on.

you know, i was mad when they got rid of hanna barbara land at wonderland and went to the nick stuff, but i understood, it was progress, the kids didnt know who the flintstones were but they did know spongebob and the rugrats, but this to me is jsut stupid, none of the kids now a day shave any idea who the snoopy or charlie brown are, its just so backwards. |

John, the point in this matter is why change what isn't broken and has worked well for the ex-PP parks for quite a long while.
Again CF misses the boat and the literal gold mine the Nickelodeon brand brings with it. The license may be steep but it sure as hell would pay off in the long run. Nick is everywhere and much more marketable than Snoopy and the gang. It's this generations Hanna-Barbera/Looney Tunes. Other than the comics page where else do you see Peanuts characters on a daily basis? The old, tired holiday specials are only run once a year on TV if that.
Peanuts work great at CP and from what I can tell from the other pre-Paramount CF parks because they didn't have any real mascots at the parks. The Berenstain Bears may not have been a strong brand icon as Snoopy is but Snoopy is no match for the Nick characters.
CF may more than likely gain by ditching the Peanuts altogether and going with Nick at ALL their parks. _________________ On September 21, 2007, a historic 119-year old amusement park had been secretly murdered. Never forget it. |

Well Snoopy and the Peanuts is probably more cost effective than Nick is, although the latter is much more widely known than the former. Also, you have to take into account the top heads of CF, they have to be older than 60, so they probably still think it would appeal to kids just the same as Nick appeals to them. |

I don't think it is so much of a bad Idea to get rid of Nick. Some. of the characters and shows on the rides are not on Nick anymore.I don't think Peanuts is the answer either. Havins 3 kids and listening to them and their friends(ok so mabe I watch too), Cartoon network seems to be where it is now. Has to be cheeper than Nick and the kids love it. Just my 2 cents. |

I totally hear where your coming from, Micheal, and I completely agree that Nick reigns with kids over Snoopy.
But instead of many of us going ahead and thinking that Cedar Fair aren't in-touch with their guests, or making "idiot" decisions, we need to remember that this may go beyond something as simple as renewing a license.
• Maybe Nick wouldn't allow the Renew
• Perhaps the license cost too much to justify
• I noticed Nicks shows change quite frequently (perhaps there was a requirement to re-brand rides every couple years)
• Cedar Fair have put a lot of investments into Snoopy, and have exclusive rights to a lot of the theme park marketing for them (I can't think of any other park chain that has Snoopy)
• CF want to keep things consistent with one brand (as most large companies do)
So basically, that's what I can come up with, and again, I find this an odd move for Cedar Fair on the outside, but there's most likely a good reason for it.
They are not ruining the parks. |

John we have met on a few occasions. I have respect for you and understand your points and you to are entitled to your opinion as well. I guess I have a grudge against the company because I like the way things used to be. I worked for Six Flags one year and Cedar Fair for 5 I still have a lot of friends who work for both companies so I know what you are saying. I just don't think it is a good idea to get rid of the themeing these parks were known for. The paramount parks were known for their themeing and the nick toons. My theory is why fix something if it isn't broken. Im tired of all the senseless budget cuts this company makes. I think Nick is the cash cow right now with the kids I grew up with it. The only thing I ever knew snoopy for was the charlie brown christmas. Will this really affect me? no it won't but I'll miss runaway reptar lol. _________________ -Kevin |

Scroll to the bottom, to see snoopy is coming. This is also interesting, as CF is implying the park will exist next year. _________________ Confidentiality is telling one person at a time.
