| I just don't think it is a good idea to get rid of the themeing these parks were known for. The paramount parks were known for their themeing and the nick toons. My theory is why fix something if it isn't broken. Im tired of all the senseless budget cuts this company makes. I think Nick is the cash cow right now with the kids I grew up with it. The only thing I ever knew snoopy for was the charlie brown christmas. |
Kev, trust me... I agree with Nick being the stronger of the two licenses, but I do think it goes well beyond simply money-saving techniques. Aside from The Paramount Parks, Universal and Dreamworld Australia, I can't think of another park that has the Nick Characters in an isolated themed land (Not including Mall of America which is entirely Nick-Themed)
What other budget cuts are you referring to? I'm not aware of any other major ones.
Losing Nick won't have the same impact as losing Hanna Barbara will, but it is still up in the air of what will really stay or go.
Re-branding these areas won't be cheap, either, it is going to take $2 to $5 Million each to get these areas redone.
I wont say that the Peanuts brand is weak, The wife and I were at the mall yesterday, and we happened to go into a Puzzle store, and as soon as you walked in, there was a Giant Peanuts Puzzle of Snoopys Doghouse. Another Columbus-area mall here decorates for Christmas with the Peanuts Characters. I do feel the Brand is very, very strong. and its getting stronger as new DVD's are released. Hallmark is another store that is decked out with Peanuts, and so is Toys R Us.
Seeing stuff like that tells me the product is strong, and though some kids may fuss about losing Nick, they are really there for the rides in the end, no matter who's cartoon face is on it.
I have a Gut feeling that Kings Island may keep Nick for a while longer... so far there has been no mention of Snoopy and Kings Island was voted Best Kids Area". We'll see if my gut was right soon, though. |

I see Nick Universe gone next year since it will be an off-year and Diamondback will still be a very highly marketable ride. They will either wait until Haunt or after the season is over to make the announcement.
Kings Island's kid's area was also voted "Best Kids Area" with Hanna-Barbera so when it comes time to remodel KI's I really hope CF does it right. _________________ On September 21, 2007, a historic 119-year old amusement park had been secretly murdered. Never forget it. |

I’m certainly not the sharpest knife in the drawer, so allow me to ask these questions. With this kids area remodel, am I to assume that the Scooby-Doo license will be gone as well? Will that mean that all of the Scooby dark rides will have to be remodeled/rebranded?
If that is indeed the case, let me offer some ideas for a “fun” new dark ride adventure.
“KidWorks: The Kids Fight Back”- All of the lovable and well-recognized characters from Cedar Fair’s “KidWorks” such as… umm… Whatshisname™… and Whoozits™… and you know that guy… always wore a shirt™? Well, they’re all here in an exciting ride like no other. Seems the KidWorks gang is being harassed by a gang of thugs, but this gang picked the wrong kids to f with. Join all your favorite KidWorks Kids as they blow away the bullies with their AK-47 blasters mounted on each ride vehicle. It’s good clean fun the whole family will enjoy. Remember- the more blood the better!
“The Hunt for the Berenstain Bears”- Take a ride through the Forest of Doom and come face to face with the horrifying Berenstain Bears. They’ll attack you from the sides, from above, and even from underneath as you score points by destroying these evil creatures. Who in your family can score the most points and kill the most bears?
“War Zone: Aurora”- You and your family will board an armed transport vehicle for a heart-stopping ride through Aurora, Ohio. Along the way riders will encounter West Nile-infested pools filled with mutant mosquitoes, abandoned roller coaster stations with creepy thieves looting through the remains, and rotting buildings with rats and other vermin scurrying by. It’s up to you to clean up this ravaged area and get rid of the scum. Of course, it’s going to take an awful lot for that to happen. Best of luck, recruits!
“Pirate Ride 2009”- Hop aboard a small boat for a thrilling ride back to the age of pirates and get swept away on the high seas after being swallowed by a giant whale. Can you launch your treasure finders at enough gold coins and set the high score? Or will your boat end up hanging high and dry like one of the condemned pirates inside? “Look out for the whale” indeed!
“Bill Spehn’s Wild Ride”- You and your family will be miniaturized and sent down the gullet of Cedar Point’s Operations Manager where you’ll attempt to clear Mr. Spehn’s arteries of plaque, fat and god knows what else. Beware if you don’t clean enough out… you may be faced with a rather unpleasant (and disgustingly wet) finale.
The possibilities are endless. _________________ http://rayp.smugmug.com |

For the love of Pete, I would love to see this happen. That was awesome, Ray.
Will be interesting to see what this means for some of the current kiddie sections of the parks. The most important one to me? The former Yogi's Cave at Kings Dominion. Surely, they can't make it worse than it currently is. But, do they improve it with a Peanuts theme or is this the last year for the awesome cave at KD?
And definitely wonder about all the Scooby rides like Ray said, too. Its a lot of work to redo dark rides and such. See: monSTARS of Rock.

According to KI Extreme it's official - Planet Snoopy is coming in 2010. Here's the link from their site.

Also looks like Scooby Doo and the Haunted Castle is out as well. I think this will be the most interesting transformation yet for this ride.
I think the best thing to happen with this is the removal of all that orange and lime green paint all over the place. _________________ On September 21, 2007, a historic 119-year old amusement park had been secretly murdered. Never forget it. |

Ray, I nearly pee'ed myself reading that, if only it weren't so true. I also laugh thinking what the lobotomized robots in Sandusky said when they read it. _________________ GL's demise was caused by one mans foolish greed.

On KIC, Anything related to that page is being deleted because it's not linked to on the rest of the website.
It says "four coasters"... What's the fourth? There's only three currently in NU. So is PS bringing a new coaster with it?
Edit: Oh wait, they count Avatar as a coaster. |

KIC has been in constant denial about Nick leaving, even after the other four parks announced Planet Snoopy. _________________ Confidentiality is telling one person at a time.

"Peanuts are an international icon," Kings Island's vice president and general manager Greg Scheid said. "Snoopy and his pals like Charlie Brown, Lucy and Linus are instantly recognizable among children and adults alike. We look forward to the Peanuts Gang becoming part of the world-class thrills, fun and family entertainment for our guests."
My kids had no idea who the characters were, and they are in their teens and 20's now. I have a feeling that today's kids really have no clue, kind of like CF has no clue. _________________ GL's demise was caused by one mans foolish greed.
