|
|
I was thinking back on Geauga Lake today and went way back into time when the Big Dipper ran with only 3-car trains. I believe it was during this time too that the double-down still existed and the second hill after the first drop still was "flat" at the top.
I believe as a small child I only rode the Big Dipper once in this condition prior to it being converted to 4-car trains and the redesign of some track elements.
Does anyone know how the ride experience changed during this transition? I can only imagine the double-down had to be wicked fun! |

The Big Dipper designer John Miller also put in a double dip on Kennywood's Jack Rabbit, that one definitely is a lot of fun. _________________ "It's a very special ride. We want to make sure it has a proper home." Cedar Fair Spokesman Innes on Big Dipper, 12th oldest roller coaster on Earth. |

I'm pretty sure the double-dip was removed during the 1980 reprofile (relying on my memory from the Dipper rally...), so ScrewCrew88 is probably talking pre-1980. |

i remember the old style trains. there was even one year i had gone, posibly in thel lvery late 60's or early 70's, that they were running the train with just 2 cars. I dont know why this was but i do remember the older family members talking that the park was not in very good shape. Some older uncles even said they were no longer sure of the dippers safety. (tho they still called it the Clipper.) |
