An Orange County roller coaster remains closed after a cable broke and injured two riders this week, Knott’s Berry Farm officials said today.

When the Xcelerator roller coaster launched just before 4 p.m. Wednesday, a cable came loose and cut a 12-year-old boy in the leg, officials said. And a man was treated for back injuries after the malfunction, during which smoke and debris shot into the air and the ride’s cars rolled back into the boarding area, said Meghan Gardner, a spokeswoman for Knott’s Berry Farm.

The ride was shut down immediately and will remain closed while the state Division of Occupational Safety and Health and the Buena Park amusement park investigates, Gardner said. ...

This has happened before on TTD and KK.

This hasn't been a good year for the amusement park industry.

Knott's Berry Farm says a cable snapped on the Xcelerator roller coaster, causing a boy and a man to go to the hospital with back pain and a leg laceration.

Spokeswoman Jennifer Blazey says it happened shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Orange County amusement park.

An online video shows particles flying into the face of passengers. ...

It's not good for Intamin cable launched coasters in general.

I watched the Youtube video...the boy seemed to take the brunt of it, plus as they were rolling back into the station/launch area, you can see the boy's seat unlodge itself as well.

The boy was in the hospital for two days. If you see the video, the boys seat becomes dislodged a little from the car.

Pretty scary if you ask me. Two major snaps on cables on the accelerator coasters? Hmmmm seems like a problem to me....
