^World's biggest bonfire?  It would put the Texas A&M bonfire to shame.

I used to ride MS in the back where it was a bit more tolerable than towards the front, which is strange since the back is usually the more brutal part of the train.

Heck The Beast is brutal if you sit on a wheel seat, especially the farther back you go in the train. I vowed to never queue for a wheel seat ever again.

What will be interesting is how Six Flags will re-do Texas Giant, which also has received the reputation for being one rough coaster.

KI settles, after jury awarded compensatory damages but before punitive deliberations started.

Here's a detailed article about the various Son of Beast injuries over the years, including two broken necks in 2001 and a next-day death in 2007:

http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20090723/NEWS01/907240329/Son+of+Beast+inspected+more+than+any+ri de+in+Ohio

The most striking was in July 2007, when "A 30-year-old man from Southaven, Miss., complained of 'sharp back pain' after getting off Son of Beast" and died at a hospital the next day. The Hamilton County Coroner "determined he had died from hemorrhagic shock from blunt impact to his torso."

He had several "pre-existing health conditions, including a protein S deficiency and neurofibrosis" and obesity. But I doubt blunt force trauma was one of them.

So they tried to improve it, they continue to have problems and it looks like it will be gone soon.

These two have some more details on the trial and settlement:

We were at Kings Island a week or so before it closed in June.  My kid chickened out and I have to say I'm glad.  We rode the beast but it wasn't so rough.  We rode Mean Streak on opening day at CP this year and I won't let him on anymore.  It had been a while since I was on it and I forgot how painful it is.  Maybe to overprotective but that ride beats me up pretty bad and he's only six... so who knows.  I remember waiting 2 hours for that beater when it opened.

Did anyone ever ride SOB with the loop?  If so how was it?

SOB with the loop wasn't any different than what you experienced with the Gerstlauer trains in June except the old Premier trains had a raised floor, which it didn't have when it first opened, that made sitting in the train a bit uncomfortable, giving you less leg room. I will say that seat 6-2 was the best seat ever in the old trains. Not only was it probably the most tolerable seat on the train you also had the pleasure of seeing everyone in front you looking like bobble heads and you got plenty of sound effects with the people behind you yelling in pain.  Wink

The loop was the smoothest part of the whole ride and was awesome flying through it with just a lap bar.

The information pointed out in this article stating that the owner knew SOB was flawed will most likely put an end the torture SOB has been putting everyone in.

"Kings Island's owners were "negligent" and "put passengers at risk" on the Son of Beast roller coaster, according to a forensic engineer who inspected the ride."

"Schmizze said when the ride opened in 2000, park owners knew they had a problem because the ride was swaying too much, likely due to inferior wood used. The ride was shut down several times after it opened, as Kings Island tried to fix the problems, he said. Former KI owner Paramount fired Roller Coaster Company of Ohio --- the firm hired to engineer and build the ride --- before the construction was completed, Schmizze said. With a ride as complex as the Son of Beast, Schmizze said they would have needed a computer model in order to correctly fix the defects. Instead, Schmizze said Kings Island started building support structures on the ride in areas they thought needed bolstering. But if you try to fix one part of the ride, without a computer model, you can't know the effect on the rest of the structure, Schmizze said."

Wow - Kinzel, you knew this and you still wanted PKI that bad? Bye Bye Kinzel.

Here is another article on this sad-all-around (injury victims, Cedar Fair, Son of Beast fans) tale with some more details on the problems over the years:
http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20091114/NEWS01/911150350/Coaster+s+future+in+doubt

The title "Coaster's future in doubt" says it all. I'm guessing SBNO until the last case settles, then it gets Villain-ed.
