I will be there Sunday! I will miss Demon Drop! It has special meaning for me! It will be missed! The funny part is next summer we are planning a trip to see my brother in law and are planning to go to Knotts! So I will get to ride it in its new home as long as it moves good and not fall apart!

So that is what CF meant by the slogan "Sometimes Lightning Strikes Twice."

Some of the Californians don't seem too pleased about the new addition:
http://travel.latimes.com/daily-deal-blog/index.php/californias-great-am-5682/

Noting that Knotts is removing the Screamin’ Swing ride "to make room for Demon Drop, a 26-year-old thrill ride being removed from Cedar Point" this article goes on to say "Think of it as a white elephant Christmas in which the California theme parks get regifted presents in 2010 as parent company Cedar Fair bestows the big prizes" on Kings Dominion and Carowinds.

Another article asks "So why is the ride heading west?" It notes, citing themeparkinsider.com, that "Cedar Fair put the ride up for sale in 2005" and a comment on that site "suggests this is the result of Cedar Point’s inability to sell it." However, "Knott’s officials said they had no information about that."

It also observes that Cedar Point’s website ridership total for Demon Drop "has declined from 770,298 in 1996 (the oldest figure made available) to 472,937 in 2008."

I don't blame them for not being pleased with this move. There is such a strong competitive market there with Disney, Six Flags, Legoland, and Universal. It seems CF is too busy playing favorites with the former Paramount Parks that the pre-Paramount parks are getting shafted or given hand-me-downs because they can't afford new attractions for them.

They are, in a sense, playing the 1999-2003 Six Flags card.

Before anyone jumps on me I do realize that several CF parks have received new rides lately but you can't compare rides the like of Knott's Pony Express and Sierra Sidewinder to, let's say, Carowinds' Intimidator or Wonderland's Behemoth.

Ridership at Knotts will not be much more then it was at CP. I would think that the money spent on tearing down, transporting and rebuilding has got to be better spent elsewhere. Plus after its up what kind of lifespan can it expect??

Cedar Fairs actions are pretty transparent. It is so obvious that that Paramount parks are more important to them then their older parks. So again I will bring up the point, how can anyone think that the demise of Geauga Lake wasn't planned?

As far as I'm concerned, Knott's can have Demon Drop.  I rode it for the last time today and it was awful. The ride is just as bone-rattling as the old free-fall ride that operated at the Aurora property.  To be positive though, there was a 15 minute wait and it ran without incident from what I could tell.

Oh, and I see the black sheep of the Paramount family (Great America) is getting the Screamin' Swing being removed from Knott's.  The ride rotation program is in full swing!

We were also there and I was happy with my ride on dd today! It had the familiar noises and feelings that take me back to my childhood.  My kids loved it and wanted to go again and again!! It was really nice to get the chance to say goodbye. Demon Drop is the ride where I faced  my fears of rides. It was nice to see a friend in the park wearing GL gear!! I had on my Villian shirt and the rest of my family had GL hoodies. There were some ride ops that work at wildwater kingdom as their home park. The  old gl employees seemed to really enjoy the gl gear being worn. It was a nice day!

Hopefully if the weather is good, we'll take a ride out next sunday as well.

It would have been nice to run into you RayP.

I will actually be at Cedar Point on Sunday. I know, right? Shocking! I haven't stepped foot in the park in almost 5 years of my own choosing. My best friend is a season pass holder and he has the bring a friend for 15 bucks. I am taking advantage of that and some last rides on Demon Drop and some fun rides on Maggie. Will be trying out Maverick this trip as well.

Hope to see some of you there!

I rode it twice toward the end of the night tonight and the line wasn't too bad.  Maybe a 10 or 15 minute wait.  But of course, everything was a walk on today.  It really was a great day to go...not crowded at all and the it wasn't too cold...just chilly.

I was there from open to close yesterday and we didn't wait more then 10 minutes or so for Demon Drop both times. Once was around 1 and the other about 7:30.

Lines were non-exsistant through out the day. Only line we encountered was at Maverick in the evening which ended up being about 35 minutes or so and well worth the foggy ride.

I was there on the last day! I enjoyed the Demon Drop! I will miss that ride! It always make me laugh and I don't know why! The ironic part was the last ride I took on it I was in car #4 and the first time I ever rode it I was in car #4! It was nice to see several friends from our group in the park the last few weekends wearing their Geauga Lake stuff proudly! I tell you what as time goes on more and more people have been coming up to me and commenting about my coat and telling me how the park had such special meaning! I wish more people spoke up before the park was destroyed!!! I hope Demon Drop enjoys sunny California!!!And in a wierd way Mr. Hydes Nasty fall will be there too!! Our rides from Geauga Lake should be getting frequent flyers miles for how many places they are going!

...and instead of Knott's Demon Drop is headed to Dorney.

Quote:
Crazy as it sounds, I’ve been told that pieces of Demon Drop have started to arrive at Dorney Park. That’s as bad an idea as Knott’s… who’s running this train wreck anyway? On top of Dorney suffering from all the same reasons that made Knott’s a poor choice for the ride, Dorney also suffers from noise complaint issues from their neighbors, and this is not known as a quiet attraction.

http://www.screamscape.com/html/dorney_park.htm (that's the link I have, but Screamscape is down right now.)

You know, if they put it in the upper section of the park it would fit perfectly with the "Cedar Point Lite" vibe it has. Hopefully it isn't going in the lower section, that half still had a good amount of character.
