Its just the economy, weather, crybabies boycotting Cedar Fair, etc.
It'll pick up next year. _________________ I don't like a certain company so everything they do MUST be wrong, even if it's right. And that makes me look like a bigger fool.

I love the way Stuck in the 70’s Dickie K prefaces things like “We normally don’t like to blame the weather, but…” or “We usually don’t like to blame the economy, but…” There is some really funny stuff in there. It really reeks of desperation with all of the excuses thrown in. Season pass sales are down, group sales are down, hotels aren’t operating at 100% occupancy… all of these things are new to the Cedar Fair empire. To quote Artie Lang, “Waaahhhh”.
I contributed a total of $170 to the Cedar Fair fund this season. $150 of that was my Platinum Pass, $20 of that was a Diamondback t-shirt from Kings Island. I’m sure CF hates people like me because I don’t eat in the park (See Dickie, not everyone “has to eat”) or buy grossly over-priced crap, therefore contributing to that all important in-park spending number. If Kings Dominion wouldn’t have been such a pit I may have bought a Volcano t-shirt… but I really don’t want to promote that dump in Doswell.
Perhaps Cedar Fair could use a guy like (hopefully soon-to-be fired) Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini. He’d be perfect for the Media Relations team and would fit in just fine with the rest of the tools there.
Reporter: “Mr. Mangini, do you have any valid reasons to explain why attendance was down this year?“
Mangini: “Well as we all know, the attendance cycle is a process that we go through and we always look for ways to improve that process. That is our goal.”
Reporter: “What are your feelings about the suspension of the long-running unitholder distribution?”
Mangini: “I believe that gives us the best chance of going forward.”
Reporter: “What justification can you give us for the company spending over $50 million on just 3 of the parks in the chain while some parks are receiving hand-me-downs like Demon Drop at Knott’s Berry Farm?”
Mangini: “I understand and appreciate that question. I really do. But at this time, I have nothing to add to that, thank you.”
Yes, I know he’d be perfect for Cedar Fair. He’s arrogant, thinks he can do no wrong, speaks in riddles, sidesteps any valid questions, expects his underlings to kiss his ample behind, and would give Bill Spehn a run for his money in the girth department.
Go Browns! _________________ http://rayp.smugmug.com |

Well put Ray. I just had to laugh reading the transcript from the Q&A session. CF had a list of pre made say nothing answers - something CF is excellent at doing. My question is since the amusement park industry is not new to them and Kinzel seems to be failing miserably in every department, how long can this go on before he gets the boot. The CEO's of lesser companies would have been long gone by now.
....bye bye Dick, cant say its been nice knowing you. Your problems have only started, wait until everyone really finds out why you closed GL. _________________ GL's demise was caused by one mans foolish greed.

Too funny, you guys! LOL Especially you, Ray.
Dickie Kinzel is about giving my 84 year old father a heart attack, here, with the announcement of the suspended dividends. My dad says he's supposed to get a check on the Nov. 15 and he's hoping it will still come (from what I understand, they are suspending dividends for 2010?).
I am hearing my father say he is going to have to "turn down his heat" and eat "day old bread" and things like that.
I'm thinking he has too much invested in Cedar Fair....he is VERY nervous. I told him to dump that stock before when it was going to plunge... |

Yes they have stated they are suspending dividends for 2010, seems like a perfect time to dump it. Although that would mean no more "free tickets". _________________ GL's demise was caused by one mans foolish greed.

He had a chance before to dump it...he didn't. He probably won't this time, either. He keeps thinking they will "make a comeback". |

Kinzels days are numbered. The poor 2009 performance, his unwillingness to change, micro managing, loss of of the disbursement in 2010, need I say more? |

It wasn't a good year, but I doubt it spells the end of Kinzel. He will go when his contract is up. _________________ Cedar Point: The BEST amusement park on the planet for 12 years in a row!

If I were a betting man I would bet hes gone well before his contract is up. There is only one person to blame for the bad year, its the CEO. Its not like he wasn't warned this was going to happen. Its funny that attendance was up in many other parks that listened and have reasonable admission and food prices. The value in CF parks is sorely lacking and Kinzel is way out of touch with what the public wants.
Now with the disbursements gone for 2010 there will be a lot more people unhappy with Kinzels leadership. Bye Bye Kinzel - I cant wait to see you take a walk. _________________ GL's demise was caused by one mans foolish greed.
