An anonymous source sent in these two images (see sidebar) showing off what looks like a small fire to the fake facade of Dominator’s station. As you can see in the one photo the coaster is missing track, so this was taken fairly reciently. In the other you can see a firefighter on site as well, though it looks like this story competely slipped by the local media as there no mention of a fire at the park anywhere.

Apologies for the duplication, but it struck me it might be handy to have this in the contacts thread for new readers.

Letters to the editor can help get the word out about saving the Big Dipper.  And even if they aren't published, they let the media know that people are still interested in the issue which can lead to more coverage down the road.

Ohio newspapers often publish letters even from out of town/out of state writers. Keep it polite and short (100 -200 words) and focus a few points such as why the Big Dipper should be saved or what Cedar Fair can do to alleviate some of the anger.

Send it by snail mail. Include your name and phone number at the bottom of your letter. They won't publish those but may be required to call to verify that you wrote it if it is selected for publication.

I'm not advocating spamming newspapers with letters that are not sincere or individually written. But if enough people speak up, it will help keep the issue alive.

Again, this is from another thread, but may be useful to newcomers (howdy lurkers!)

The Wikipedia article on Cedar Point says that when it was about to be turned into condos in the 1950's, concerned citizens wrote letters to the Governor of Ohio urging him to intervene. The park was saved. Now I don't believe that Geauga Lake as it existed on opening day 2007 can be saved. But saving the Big Dipper on site with some of the history is a possibility (and would be great business & PR for Cedar Fair).

So it might do some good to write to your state legislators, U.S. Congressmen and Governor Strickland. I'm not saying that they should spend public money, but maybe they can do something to help save the Big Dipper.

So think about writing to your elected officials. (And maybe also to those who represent the Aurora and Bainbridge areas, since everyone who attended GL and the nearby establishments patronized businesses in their districts.) Mailed letters carry more weight than emails.

6)  Don't count on Aurora or Bainbridge to do much to help preserve any of the park, for a lot of reasons including public statements by political leaders in both communities. But it would not hurt to write in support of preserving the Big Dipper and Carousel.

You may want to mention to Aurora that while most of the rides are in Bainbridge, the GL Ballroom and the far turn of the Big Dipper are in Aurora.

With the Big Dipper-to-Cedar Point rumor that started on Coasterbuzz flying and 30 days left until the May 23 deadline for bids on the land, time is running out.  In a month and half at most (if it has not already been decided) the final fate of the Big Dipper at Geauga Lake will be set.

Drop Cedar Fair a polite snail mail letter, let them know you want to see the Big Dipper preserved and serious consideration given to any proposals to keep it on-site at Geauga Lake along with other aspects of the park's 120 years of history.

Letters to any of the other places mentioned in this thread could not hurt either.
