| Does anyone remember the The Dive In Movies in the old Wave during the beach parties? I'm thinking mid to late 80's. They would show movies after dark while you sat in The Wave - bring that back Cedar Fair!! |
Just stumbled upon this... Yes..I remember quite vividly watching Jaws while in the wave. It was a bit creepy I've got to tell you. It was one of my best memories from the park though. Loved the dive in movies. See..nothing will ever be as good as the park was at the beginning. Can't believe they're taking it away. |

It most definitely was, and I will never forget it. Still though..it did creep me out a bit. I was still kind of young..and I guess there's just something about being in water while watching that movie that feels just a bit eerie. |

I miss the Wave.
I also miss changing in the old bathhouse that was under the sting ray slides.
It's sad to look back on things I used to do with my family, and then realize that Mom and Dad aren't going to be around forever. The times I had when they took me there as a kid just bring forth a lot of emotion.

Hmmmm - for some reason I don't remember a bathhouse under the Sting Ray slides.

I do recall one under the return leg of BD near the entrance to Turtle Beach. _________________ Greed is what caused GL's demise and that just makes me sick. Lets do what we can to rat out Kinzel - hes a snake.

That's it back there, more behind the stingray slides than under, but either way, that's the one.
In recent years, they had a deck made of composite material out there, which would get really hot in the sun and burn the crap out of your feet. I can't remember for the life of me how the deck was set up before they put out the composite. Was there always a deck, or for some reason I seem to remember a blacktop path (maybe I'm going crazy?).

The Wave always kinda scared me. When I was a lot younger, I was in a continuous wave pool in Florida (before TW at GL existed) and I fell off my raft. The life guards didn't notice, and every wave caused me to suck in more water; it was really scary. My brother ended up helping me back on the raft.
So when the GL Wave came about, I feared it. It didn't help that before I ever went into it, a girl in school got her nose broken open when someone's leg smashed into her face in it. And I clearly recall another friend getting dragged on the bottom and then standing up with a bleeding, cheese-grated leg.
Good times! |

ha I just remember my brother would take me into the wave...and end up leaving me. Wave would come...and I get my a** kicked in the face and I would go find my mom and tell on my brother for leaving me. (my parents were watching just not RIGHT there) _________________ 04-Americana

The wave I remember was the old wave.... now that was awesome. When they made the smaller one, I really never cared for it. _________________ Geauga Lake I will miss you! |

| Since I cant swim, I never went too deep into the Wave but I remember going about as far as I could and still the waves were strong even at that point. I remember how many times I didnt need to buy an intertube or raft because after about 2 waves, you could always find a lost one somewhere. And I also remember going out about as far as you could sit on the floor in the water without the water going above your neck, and letting the leftover Waves carry you all the way back to the front near the steps/ramp, which was pretty far. My friends sister one year got caught on one of those hooks on the side to hold onto, and it ripped through her leg and she had to leave in an ambulance. Good times! |

Man I loved The Wave! But I also don't remember it saying "I am The Wave". Too bad--sounds funny. I just remember it playing a tone before the Wave would come.
Remember getting sucked into the intake grate?? Well not INTO but if you got too close to that thing, man it was hard to get away from it.
I also remember the Dive-In movies--those were so much fun! I remember seeing Orca the Killer Whale (if anyone remembers that 80s classic) in there.
I always thought The Wave was in a weird location, too--but it was cool to be able to look down from some rides and see all the people in there having fun.
Does anyone have a photo of the sign from The Wave? I would love to see a good close-up of the evil Wave face that was painted on the wall! Also, does anyone have an mp3 of the Geauga Lake song (it's gonna be fun la la la la la la its gonna be great at Geauga Lake)? Sorry--I am too new to post new posts so wanted to ask.
Ive enjoyed reading everyones memories of my favorite amusement park. Im going to miss that place...I hadnt been there since 2004, but in a way Im glad, because Ill remember it how it was before stupid CF started dismantling it. |

Found this postcard from 1988. I have another of the Big Dipper and Corkscrew that I'll have to post soon.
