The old Wyandot Lake park next to the Columbus Zoo has a new name : Zoombezi Bay.

http://www.columbusdispatch.com/dispatch/content/local_news/stories/2007/07/12/ZOO12.html

I never had any desire to go to the old park as it was mainly a water park but I'm now intrigued to see what the zoo will create in Powell.

Are they keeping the amusement park part? At least what's already there? Not a big fan of the new name, it doesn't roll off the tongue well at all.

Zoombezi Bay? Are they trying to be on the last page of the phone book?

Zoombezi Bay opens May 26th, 2008.  Is anyone going this season from this website? Maybe they will buy The Big Dipper from GL??

The website doesn't say anything about rides. Are they keeping The Sea Dragon? Has it been torn down? It's a classic coaster. I hope they saved it. The website is Zoombezibay.com.

I saw pictures somewhere, from what I know the coaster is still standing and I thought they were going to open the rides along with the wet attractions. Nothing as far as I know is listed on the main site....but I think it should still be part of the park.

I contacted the park, they advised me the Sea Dragon is still up and going, the dry rides will be on a pay per ride basis. I believe the roller coaster is $2.00 per ride, a lot of the kids rides which I believe they gave a list of like 15 that will be open are $1.00 per ride. I believe they can be ridden with zoo admission and the pay per ride amount, meaning I believe(I am saying I believe cuz I am only 99.9% sure) you do not have to pay the admission for the waterpark to ride the rides.

I'm glad they are keeping The Sea Dragon. Are they going to have a POP wristband  or is it pay per ride? I know the price now is for water park and I think the zoo.

It seems to be per ride, at this point.  That is in addition to the regular zoo admission (except for the carousel which is over in the zoo part).  It appears that in addition to the Sea Dragon, they kept a few Wyandot Lake flats, maybe Scrambler and Tilt-a-Whirl.  There is a thread on coasterbuzz with some good information posted by "Amnesiac" particularly the "list of rides" (there are 14 in the dry ride "Jungle Jack's Landing"):

What they should do is offer packages (zoo +zoombezi bay+ rides) or (zoo + zoombezi bay) or (zoombezi bay +rides) I think If I were to visit, the packages would be more attractive as a destination point.

I think I'll wait to visit until they work out the pricing issue. It seems that the rides should be included in the price. I rode Sea Dragon in 06' and it's a great coaster. I want this to work for them but it seems a little high in price. If you have to pay for everything seperate.
