IN SEARCH OF: CROWDS! (Modified from original post)
Before we begin this week's update, I'd like to point out the above banner that was placed on the Pepsi Plunge advertising the Mongoose BMX Stunt Team coming to Geauga Lake during the upcoming AST Dew Tour that will be held downtown. Funny there wasn't anything posted on the main park site about it.
(The banner stated that the Stunt Team will be at Geauga Lake on July 17, 18, and 19 at 6 PM and 7 PM)
I arrived at the park in the early afternoon to find the parking lot almost full. When I arrived at the parking booths, I asked what was going on and I was told there were two company outings today. It made for some nice lines through most of the afternoon.
I ended up parking in D-1, which is closest parking area to the park's graveyard. It was a quite a walk to the gate but I did not complain because it was great to see all those cars in the lot for once. |

Will they be doing stunts at Geauga Lake or will it just be autograph signings and things of that sort? If they are doing stunts, where in the park will it be? Woods Arena?
Do they have more information about this event anywhere?? |

| Does anybody have any more information about this? Has anybody called the park or emailed and asked specifics regarding this event. These are the kind of things that bother me. This is a great opportunity for crowds and all we see in the park is this sign. Why is it not on tv? Why is it not all over the website? Why have we not seen a press release? OH WELL. We know they read this website so mayybeee we will see something done after ol' Billy Boy sits down in his office tonight to surf the net to catch up on the latest "Geauga Lake is going to be turned into a shopping center" rumors. |

I have emailed the park and as soon as I can get some info I'll post it. _________________ On September 21, 2007, a historic 119-year old amusement park had been secretly murdered. Never forget it. |

Wow. I couldn't believed where you parked! I never would have thought those spaces would be used this year...
Thanks for taking your camera and taking some pictures. It was really great to see those crowds. The park just had so much more life. And the Thunderhawk line was just really exciting.
And it seems like there have been quite a few days with these types of crowds this year. Hopefully this will be a better year for GL. _________________ www.ipetitions.com/petition/geaugalake

Well, it's pretty obvious to me that Geauga Lake is popular enough to survive. As long as these guests had a good enough time to come back.
Though the lines were long, did the park do well at getting trains out? How about the lines for the games?
How was the spirit of the crowd? Did people enjoy the park from what you could tell? |

Geauga Lake needs to book more company picnics. If they did that, then they would survive and have great attendence numbers. _________________ "Despite low attendence at Cedar Point Amusement Park, CEO Dick Kinzel decicded to close down its sister park, Geauga Lake, in hopes for more attenence." |

*Update* - I received an e-mail from the park stating that the BMX Stunt Team will be at the Woods Arena on July 17, 18, and 19. I guess it would be safe to say we'll see some demonstrations.
The only rides I rode were Head Spin, Big Dipper, Dominator, and Double Loop. I was mainly out there to basically people watch.
DL and BD were pretty much operated the same as always, which is to be expected given the nature of the rides.
I rode Dominator after a short breakdown and they were doing pretty good with the dispatching. I know when my train arrived at the brakes outside the station the other train was already over halfway up the lift. The line for Dominator did stretch down the stairs.
Villain went down for awhile but before it did the line was out into the queue. Not sure about the dispatching on that one.
BTW, Texas Twister was having issues off and on during my stay. It was closed before I left but when it did run the carriage would be about full. Even Time Warp was getting some good business, with the car being full most of the time.
As for games, the games midway was busy and I did see quite a few people with stuffed animals in the park. The electronic Hi-Striker by the Festhaus/Americana was getting good business when I stopped to take a break.
The spirit of the crowd, from what I could see, was that they were having a good time. Could it be that people like the "reduced" Geauga Lake over the oversized thrill-laden park it once was? I did not overhear anyone complain about the loss of the two coasters.
There was one guy and his family who were dumping a lot of change into the water cannons at Pepsi Plunge after it opened, having a really good time dousing the poor riders and bragging that he probably dropped about $40 into the machines. When I walked by later on there were two more groups of people dumping quarters and enjoying dousing the riders. |

Thanks for the update Gunkey. Even though I'm not a big BMX or "extreme sports" fan, I may go check it out one day this week. _________________ Always remember Geauga Lake...

Thanks for the update Gunkey. I just read a TR over on Pointbuzz, and apparently it was crowded today (Sunday, 7-15) also. It said there was a 15 minute wait for Villain. Good to hear about the lines for Dominator and Villain on Saturday. _________________ www.ipetitions.com/petition/geaugalake

| It was Catholic weekend, or something like that. Not even a mention of it on the main site. I also, understand it was more crowded than Cleveland Clinic days. |
