SHIPWRECK FALLS DISMANTLED

As posted in the forums, Shipwreck Falls is in the process of being dismantled. Driving up Route 43 towards the park and seeing the above crane pierce the sky you would think that maybe it was in the process of taking down Big Dipper. In fact I don't like the way the boom goes completely over Dipper's structure.

For those wondering where the ride is going, it will not be appearing in a Cedar Fair park as rumors have appeared saying the ride has been sold to Celebration City, which is a sister park to the famous Silver Dollar City theme park located in Branson, Missouri.

All pieces of Thunderhawk are gone, including the trains that were stored in the back on my last trip out to Aurora. Pieces of the station roof are still in the parking lot though.

I always hated where Shipwreck Falls was just fitted into the park. A stupid Six Flags move...

And Cedar Fair (if they even wanted to keep the water park) should of kept Shipwreck Falls and put it in the water park.... Cheap bastards! no lol

I liked the ride itself, but the location is a little off. Even though I would always ride that move on to coasters in the area.

Should've put it where the go-karts were, or something, or in the middle of traffic flow, like by Power City. But then again, I would've rather moverd Grizzly's entrance there.I could never find the blasted queue for that thing!!

Grizzly's queue was easy to find until they closed it off and made it the patio for Gotham City Pizza, thus rerouting it to behind Texas Twister. That was poor planning.

People always thought the water bomb platform was the entrance.

The pros of Shipwreck's location was that it spread out the water attractions instead of condensing them into one area.  The cons of that location was that they destroyed the historic arcade building to put it there.

There really was no easy location to put that ride at the time. Geauga Lake Road was not rerouted yet so it would have been a tight squeeze if placed where the go-carts were.

Shipwreck was a never in a great location it always looked off. I liked that it was near the old waterpark when it was still opened. Last season when I worked there is when I noticed that shipwreck should of never been there. I loved shipwreck. It was one of the best rides to work. Best of luck to it at its new location.

I think the main page should be updated with something else.

The Mirage had sat in that same spot for years, but six flags re-themed it to El Dorado and moved it on the other side of BD in the 50's area! Ship wreck Falls then claimed that spot!(By the way, CoasterDAD cleared me up on the whole re-Theme thing) Thanks,CoasterDAD!

Actually Shipwreck Falls was built on the site of the old arcade. The Mirage was located where the old SF locker rental station was near the HH restrooms.

Below is a picture taken from BD's first drop that shows the Arcade area where Shipwreck Falls was to go. In the background you can see the Mirage

At some point I remember a "Dutch Shoe" ride being to the left of the old Arcade.

Thanks for the photo, CoasterDAD! I almost didn't remember that ever being there, but now it's coming back to me. It's kinda funny how they can change a park in a way that you can sometimes not even notice!

I always have the double loop area fresh in my mind, cause the pavilions by there was what I remember the most, due to a family reunion in 1988. I was only 6 years old, but still fresh in my mind! (Its weird how you don't forget stuff that you did when your little)As you get older, you forget most recent stuff easly.
