If you're willing to step foot on WWK property this year (before it's closed too), I'm sure the gift shops will be crammed with clearance GL souvenirs. The auction will more likely be equipment, rides, supplies, machines, etc...
Hopefully they will have all the old signs up for auction, I would love to have a sign from the park hanging in my room.
For the first time in 120 years, we will go to GL on a sunny June afternoon, and no rides will be open, no familiar sights, smells, or screams.

I had the opportunity to view some aerial shots of the park taken this week and from the looks of it the gift shops are empty. One even had a dumpster close by. The park still looks essentially intact though.
I thought I heard that WWK will have some GL souvenirs if you want to go there and get them, I know I don't. _________________ Greed is what caused GL's demise and that just makes me sick. Lets do what we can to rat out Kinzel - hes a snake.

I completely understand what you are saying. But I never dreamed that I would have the opportunity to set foot in there again before the wrecking ball falls. Now we have 2 or even 3 days to do that if there is a preview day on Monday June 16. And the chance maybe to buy something to remember it by.
I know some things will be torn up, and the park will show signs of not being kept up since last September. But as the photos Coasterdad saw show, a lot of the park is still intact. Because the stuff they will be auctioning is spread out from the ballroom to Happy Harbor, they probably will do limited demolishing between now and the end of June when the last of the auction purchases are cleared out.
Just having the chance to go back is totally unexpected and pretty neat. I'm still not giving up on the Dipper and its immediate surroundings, but having the auction set is bringing closure on the rest of the park. _________________ "It's a very special ride. One small chunk of news in a new article in today's Aurora Advocate suggesting that some of the 16 rides up for sale may be sold before the auction, but those that aren't will be auctioned -- Big Dipper included?:
"Officials for Cedar Fair have said they are looking into all options, noting some rides hopefully will be sold before the auction and those that aren't would be auctioned off." (But it also notes that Cedar Fair officials could not be reached before press time, so this may be old info).

Are you sure? I was told the auction would be private, by invite only. |

It seems that other auctions (Santa's Village, Wyandot Lake, Williams Grove, Astroworld and a number of others), were open to the public. I've never heard of anyone causing any disruptions and I can't see that being any different here. It would be unfortunate if it is not open to the public.
Based on accounts of those other auctions, my sense is that people would be nothing but orderly and respectful. And Cedar Fair would make more money by having more potential bidders in the mix. _________________ "It's a very special ride. We want to make sure it has a proper home." Here's an article on the Santa's Village auction, wandering around the park during the auction was not allowed (for good reasons), but it was open to the public:

Um... ok?
Skyglider, hopefully something like the Santa's Village auction could happen at Geauga Lake. I have to think that some of the more vocal people would take it upon themselves to "crash the party", as they say, which would be too bad. I guess we'll find out soon enough! |

I am interested in contacting both Waldameer & Kennywood, in the hopes that I can peak their interest in the auction, especially for 2 rides.
Two rides that are both family favorites and special/hard-to-find are
(1) Beaverland Mine Ride/formerly 'Roadrunner Express'...a great family and entry-style steel coaster, of which was the first coaster that my Godson ever rode!
(2) Haybaler....Wouldn't this look great again somewhere like Waldameer at night, with the strobe lights going...reminiscing about the great Halloween days of Six Flags WoA / Geauga Lake! _________________ http://www.splashingfun.com |

I hope Waldameer buys Haybaler. It looks like it would be a good fit.

You know "Fun", you are absoutely right. ?You were told the auction would be private, by invite only. ?
Is there really anything more that needs to be said?
Well anyway, your posts continue to give me a good laugh every now and then. ?I look forward to seeing someone else corrected since you are obviously an all-knowing GL Insider, and you telling everyone else they are wrong.

I read all the old posts Ray, they are very interesting and entertaining the way he corrects everyone. He never has a new post or comment just corrects everyone here. Thanks again for doing all that work.
I always thought it was a strange coincidence that their user name is Fun, and CF stock symbol is FUN. _________________ "Be ashamed to die until you have achieved

There does seem to be an assumption on some other boards that an open the public auction would involve disruptions. I just don't see that happening. I have not heard of anyone causing disruptions at the offices in either Aurora or Sandusky. No reports of picketing or vandalizing. There may be a lot of venting on the net, but reports of face to face interactions between even the most vocal GL fans and CF officials have been quite civil.
Nor do I see a big crowd showing up. The auction is during the week, so most people would need to take off work and/or arrange child care. Also, some people would stay away because they want their last memories of the place to be as an operating amusement park, not an auction. After thinking about it, I'm strongly leaning that direction.
If they depart from the past pattern of having at least part of the event open to the public, it makes it a much bigger media story. It revives the "denied a last chance to say goodbye" theme and creates controversy that makes for juicy news stories. Coverage of a routine Norton Auction would be much more subdued than reports of people being turned away at the gate.
At this point I think most Geauga Lake fans want rides like the Haybaler to get good new homes. This auction would be no different than other park auctions that have been open to the public - lightly attended, respectful and non-eventful. _________________ "It's a very special ride.
