To echo the comments about security, they and everyone working at the park on June 16, 2008 with Norton, Geauga Lake employees and vendors could not have been nicer.

Security was brought in from Sandusky.  They were concerned about disruptions, though I've not heard of any at all on preview day.  There was a sense that they were keeping a close watch though.  A comment was overheard from a radio about a guy with spikey hair (and no doubt a camera).  Another guy in a hat reached up to touch a beam on the Big Dipper and then moved on.  Over the radio you could overhear something about a guy in a hat (who heard it too 'cause he took the hat off when he got around the bend).  It was kind of funny, probably the best live entertainment at the park this season.

I give them credit, they were very polite, diligent and let people go about their way.  Many other young officers probably would have been bossing folks around or finding a place to hide out and take a snooze.

I agree about how everyone was! I know that I talked to so many people Monday and Tuesday. There was an older employee who was driving around on a golf cart. He was so kind to allow my son to have a couple of washers and a bolt from the Doiminator. We didn't want to get into trouble so we asked. He said go away and gave a kind smile to us and let me take a picture  of my sons on the cement block where our ride stood! It makes me want to cry when I am thinking about it now that all those happy times and being at my happy place is being destoyed as I type this. It is like the reality is really hitting hard!!!

imissg, I was not criticizing or responding to your post in any way, I thought your post was excellent. I agree with you that there was a lot of observation going on.

Things are sad enough, let's all try to get along. I agree with you there was a real sense of community that day.

Does anyone have any idea what is happening to the stuff that wasn't auctioned off, mostly the smaller items? ?When I was back in the service buildings there were tons upon tons of things, I can't see that everything would have been bid on. ?There were old signs, Oktoberfest decorations, a pile of old license plates, etc. ?I'm considering going back out there this weekend to see if there are any huge trash containers that might have some treasures in them. ?I wish they would have let the average Joe back in after all is said and done to go through what is left.

I don't know what's going to happen about the trash left over but you got the right idea--I'm going dumpster diving this weekend. We got there early on Tues-8:30 and grabbed as much small items --anything that would fit in my purse or pockets. Then bought some shirts so they gave us a bag--was able to get the 70th anniversary of the BD out in that, an employee handbook, some ride check list sheets.etc It made me mad that in alot of the little shops stuff was just laying about and it could have been boxed up properly and save. The BD poster was laying face down in a smashed frame in the office, I only found it because a dropped my hat bent down to get in and noticed it half under a desk. If CP really cared I don't think they would have left peoples old paychecks laying around either--It was in the office. I was of of the thought ifs its not locked down or obviously part of the auction its fair game. I got pictures inside the carousel, sitting in the old Double Loop car. Security was ok-only got told  to get down off the one water slide platform and had to leave inside the old arcade upstairs (was dark, Very Happy  should have had a flash light) If WWK closes next year like it probably will, I know to take a bigger purse and flash light. Very Happy

I took over 300 pictures, but thought these would be something different for you to look at.  All were taken in the service buildings.

FYI-I was reading the POINT ONLINE and even the moderators were trashing Cedar Fair.  It was amusing.

Hah, if you read any of my posts (I'm BREinator Wax, a moderator on The Point Online)...then I'm sure you can see that I am VERY angry with Cedar Fair and am not afraid to say so. The problem with The Point Online is that its owner likes to kiss CF's a**, so it's a rarity to see the administration really say much about what's happened with GL.

It is nice to see people that people who seem more tied to Cedar Point than Geauga Lake being angry too.  I rarely post here, but as I mentioned Cedar Point was my park of choice, but I am disgusted about this situation.  I really feel for these people who made Geauga lake there home park.  This was a mugging.  It is like someone beat up an old lady on the street, took her valuables, and left the rest for the bums to pick through, then after that get left for dead.

I really think the name of this thread should now be changed to.  "Geauga Lake to be Destroyed by Dick Kinzel"
