So did you guys see the story today that it appears Big Dipper, RWB, and the Villian are likely headed for "the auction lot". Although I hate to say it, Cedar Fair I guess means business when they said Big Dipper will not be staying on the property.
I saw one article, on channel 5's website that says and I quote "They include: the Big Dipper, Villain, and Raging Wolf Bobs. They all could end up at a Michigan auction house in June."
Does this imply that perhaps the auction wont be held at the park at all? And that the last go through some of us talked about, may not happen at all? And that maybe everything is going to be taken apart and shipped to Michigan? Kinda odd dont you think? |
I am almost 100 percent certain that Newsnet5 report should read "by a Michigan auction house" not "at" one. They would not spend the money to move them without a buyer and Norton's does their auctions at the parks, not back in Michigan where their offices are.
I also agree with Gunkey that they have no reason to worry about disruptions at the GL auction. Letting in a few people like Gunkey to be a witness to the end of Geauga's history would actually calm things down. _________________ "It's a very special ride. Will the rides run again for the auction?
It would be kind of eerie, but also interesting, if they do run them (empty) for bidders. You might even be able to see them being tested from outside the park a few days ahead of time, could make for some interesting video.
At Santa's Village the rides were tested empty for about a week before the auction and it looks like at least some rides ran on auction day at Williams Grove as well.
Also, since this is the official auction thread, here is the one page flyer in case anyone missed it in the other thread:

| Well seeing as RWB hasn't run in quite awhile (since before the park closed) and it's a safe bet that CF didn't do anything to winterize the coasters, I have a feeling if they try to run them now they may be in for a very nasty surprise. Plus we've had all that rain, that couldn't have helped their condition either. |

It might be nothing, but the Geauga Lake auction description on the Norton Upcoming events page has been altered -- the paragraph on the Big Dipper is gone (it is still listed in the one page flyer though).
The description used to have a second paragraph that said "1926 National Amusement Landmark Coaster - THE BIG DIPPER Wood Coaster will be offered at the auction subject to the approval of buyer by Seller."

In addition to the Big Dipper disappearing from the Norton upcoming auctions page for a day and then reappearing, I noticed something else peculiar.
They have color brochures up for every auction they have scheduled this summer, except for Geauga Lake (and an antique one that never had a "brochure available soon" tag), including one that takes place 5 weeks after the Geauga Lake auction. And the GL color brochure listing first said "available soon" then "available in April" and now "available in soon." Again, it might be nothing, but then again maybe it has something to do with the Coasterbuzz rumor that something is in flux with the Big Dipper. _________________ "It's a very special ride. oh my god. you know, just reading this thread has me in tears, and my stomach hurts from crying. i'm planning on going; part of me wants to just have my last memory of the park be my trip last year, and another part needs closure. like going to a wake and viewing a dead body. i can't imagine how painful it will be to walk through and see it all being chipped away; i think it's going to give me nightmares for years to come.
and as much as I despise CF at this point, there's a nagging feeling that i get saying maybe i should buy one of their stupid season passes to the waterpark. they want it to fail, so it would be a spite-us-both way of saying "f-you." and since aurora has no public swimming area, at least i'd get some benefit from the situation. and it would be an opportunity to snatch stuff up from the giftshops that might not be there at the auction. i dunno; at this point, there's no bright side of anything related to GL. the only thing i know for sure is that my CF boycott will go on as planned, with a possible exception to the waterpark. makes me feel like a traitor, but at the same time, nothing really matters now. |

This is becoming a weekly event. Once again, the Big Dipper has disappeared from the Norton upcoming events page (which was just updated to reflect an unrelated carousel auction last Wednesday). The Big Dipper paragraph is gone again, the Geauga Lake auction description now just reads:
"Coasters; Major, Adult & Kiddy Rides; Paddle Wheel Ferry Boats; Space Tower; Campground; Camping Trailers; All Types Amusement Park Equipment & Memorabilia!" Color Brochure is still "available in soon."
Coincidence (for the second time in a week) or sign that something is up? Who knows, maybe they are selling it at Tradewinds gift shop for 50% off!

From what I gather from the Colliers brochure the hotel and campground are both up for sale. _________________ On September 21, 2007, a historic 119-year old amusement park had been secretly murdered. Never forget it. |

| hate to say it but they probably won't be able to unload the Hotel. It was only seasonal anyway and Streetsboro has tons of hotels where people can stay. We could turn it into "The Overlook" from "The Shining"! |

The Norton Auctioneer's site has been updated to add some Happy Harbor flats. Hope they find a good home, my kids love those rides, particularly Starcastle Voyage. Still no word on June Bug Jump or Tea Party, but they did add Ripcord to the auction:
http://nortonauctioneers.com/upcoming.htm
"Late Additions
2003 Huss Bee Bee [aka Thriller Bees]
2001 Vekoma Swing Carousel [aka Starcastle Voyage]
1999 Skycoaster 100' High Dual Flight Zone [aka Ripcord]
1998 Zamperla Balloon Race [aka Pirate's Flight]
1926 National "Big Dipper" Wood Coaster"
New photos:
http://nortonauctioneers.com/Auctions/GeaugaLake/GeaugaLake.html
If you click on the second Thriller Bees thumbnail photo it takes you to a larger one showing that the cars have been removed (part of winterization or just getting a jump on disassembly?). The thumbnail of the individual bee shows them neatly parked in two rows, near a building. Probably a good preview of the half-disassembled state of things that will greet auction goers in June.
So in addition to Tea Party and June Bug Jump, still no word on Beaver Land Mine Ride, Spider (Black Squid), El Dorado and Rocket Sled Ride, but if they were going to be included in the auction they probably would have been listed in this update. No official word on Headspin, Americana or Carousel either, but they are likely moving to other Cedar Fair parks. _________________ "It's a very special ride. If you click on the thumbnail of Ripcord it looks as though Dominator's station has been demolished.
