· Quote

These two coasters really complimented each other well.  If you rode in the last car on Corkscrew then you would feel the speed of the first drop even before you reached it as the other cars pulled you along.  If you rode in the front car you had that agonizing wait as you crested the lift, slowly making it around the turn around and the start of the first drop.  Then all hell broke loose as you shot down the rest of the drop and enjoyed a great view through the corkscrews.
The Double Loop was all about the first drop for me.  An extra 25' higher than the corkscrew, it was as intense as anything out there in the early years.  The turn around at treetop level was cool, and the loops were so different than the corkscrews.  The icing on the cake was the helix and bunny hop onto the brake run before the station.
Even though both coasters were similar, the experiences were different.  God, I miss living right next to Geauga Lake!

Yeah, they really did compliment each other.

Speaking of the Corscrew...
Does anyone remember the jackets the ride op's wore? The ones that said SCREW CREW on the back? I've been searching e-bay for one of those for awile now. Must be the snickering 13 year old boy in me. Laughing

I remember those jackets! And yes I agree the rides were similar, but the experience was very different! The best part of the wo rides was when the parkwas not so bus and hey would ask you if you wanted to stay on the ride and ride it again! Man those were the days!

I remember Corkscrew having all the extra track lined up by the station and 2 cars always sitting and one operating. I always thought such a small coaster having 3 trains was crazy. What color were the trains? I wanna say Black, Red, and Yellow? or Blue. Isin't it in India now?

To answer the question, yes it is now in India. It is called "Rollercoaster." I can't remember te park right now, but I have gone on the Google website where you can see it in an satelite view! Sad. I loved that ride!  I at least know that it lives on somewhere, I wish and hope the Double Loop has a better ending and not be turned into a pile of scrap!

The park is MGM Dizzee World.  If the Corkscrew can be cut up and moved to India, there's no reason the Double Loop cannot be moved to another location.

It's nice to see that Corkscrew got a new lease on life in India. The expressions on the people's faces remind me so much of how I felt when I rode it at Geauga Lake.

I had a recent thought about the two rides.  Given that they were added to the park in consecutive years, what if Funtime would have just held off and took the extra $1 million or so for CS and just created a combined double loop/corkscrew coaster?

What comes to my mind is something like SFGAm's Demon. First hill is a bigger version of Corkscrew's. The turn around has the lengthy ramp like Double Loop's even though it is taken a little slower compared to DL's turnaround.

I realize the location of DL was rather tight back then with the road next to it and the construction of the new Western Village but a ride with four inversions would have been mind blowing and spectacular back in the day.

That sure brings back memories. The rides, the "jingle", and of course, Geauga Dog! - "It's so close, it's like having an amusement park in your ownback yard!"

It practically was, since I live in Streetsboro.  I can remember back in th 70's traffic being backed up all the way to Kent Roosevelt High School from the Sea World/Geauga Lake traffic.  My daddy would take the back roads home from church in Kent to Streetsboro!

I'm not gonna lie, but of all the coasters I've ever ridden, Double Loop is by far the double-loopiest coaster I've ever ridden. And that's no lie.
