It's obviously a true rumor since Jeff has heard about it.
For Cpboys sake I hope it happens. _________________ Greed is what caused GL's demise and that just makes me sick. Lets do what we can to rat out Kinzel - hes a snake.

And why is it obviously true if Jeff heard?
But I don't need to worry Coasterdad because it isn't true. CP does not need a ride like BD, and tell me where the heck it would go?!
Oh and for your sake I hope it isn't true just so you know. _________________ Cedar Point-The best park on the planet!

I didn't say it was true I said that the rumor was a real rumor if Jeff heard it.

Ugh, I hope this isn't the shocking announcement coasterdad told us to expect. I mean, it would be better than seeing it bulldozed, but this would still be very disappointing if true. _________________ Always remember Geauga Lake...

| I checked both PointBuzz and Coasterbuzz this morning, and it IS strange that the Putz hasn't closed the threads. Seeing as he normally closes anything that has to do with Geauga Lake rather quickly, it's got to make you wonder. While I would not want to see the BD at CP, also I would give CF a few kudos if they did move it and had it operational once more. That is to say, if they really do it. |

Yes, it is strange how Walt or Jeff has not closed any of those threads. Especially how much they hate hearing about GL over there and how much it must hurt them that the company both of them have so much invested in is screwing up. Thats OK, they can bash away at us as much as they like, they know the real truth.
Anyway, I have mixed feelings regarding the rumor. If CF were to move dipper would they really do it or would it just sit in storage? Are they simply doing it for a PR move? Could they be doing it as an out of sight out of mind move? Where would they put it? Why would they want another coaster similar to BS? CF is not known for their upkeep on wood coasters, dipper would be dumbed down like BS was.
CF is in such turmoil right now I wouldn't doubt that there was an announcement and the crybabies heard that the word leaked out and went crying to Dicky and pulled the plug on the announcement.
It just seems so far fetched it could be true, who would have ever believed the rumor that they were removing X-flight or that GL would close? But if the announcement is true, I just say bulldoze the thing and put it out of its misery. That way CF could really catch some slack for destroying a classic ride.
I hate that company with a passion! _________________ Greed is what caused GL's demise and that just makes me sick. Lets do what we can to rat out Kinzel - hes a snake.

| Too bad Idelwild couldn't get BD. It's a family oriented park from what I remember of it. I've not been there in years, so I don't know if they have the land for something like BD or not. |

I also have very mixed feelings. My first reaction is that, personally, I think that relocation would be better than destruction. (Idlewild would be another great spot for it if they do not think that it would be a draw at Cedar Point.) It has been done before, but would involve the loss of a significant amount of the existing wood.
But are they serious about relocating Big Dipper? If this is true, would it be rebuilt at Cedar Point in time for the 2009 season? Or will it go into indefinite storage, subject to dry rot and budget cuts? Will a qualified company like Martin & Vleminckx be handling the move and reconstruction?
Would this be preservation or mere damage control along the way to yet another change in plans ("oops - we wanted to rebuild it, but it's been 10 years, things changed")?
My second reaction is what the heck? Cedar Fair extends the deadline for bids on the land from March 29 to May 23. From published reports in the media, they knew about (and refused to comment on) the ACE proposal to incorporate the Big Dipper into future development at Geauga Lake that Cedar Fair presumably would have received on May 23 with the rest of the bids.
We just heard all about Cedar Fair's plans to honor the history of King's Island, which opened in 1972. Geauga Lake opened in 1888, not 1972. But, between this Coasterbuzz rumor and the plan to auction the Big Dipper June 17-18 if not sold before then, they apparently will not even consider plans to preserve some of Geauga Lake's history on site. Why?
What if the firm that is working with ACE, Herschman Architects (a successful, serious and experienced group of professionals) comes up with a plan that is a "good business decision" for Cedar Fair? Why not consider it? _________________ "It's a very special ride. We want to make sure it has a proper home." CF Spokesperson Robin Innes about the Big Dipper.

His main reaction has been to call names. Where I come from that is called an "ad hominem attack" and a poor debating technique often used to cover up a weak position.
And to remind us that "nobody cares about Geauga Lake" even in Aurora and Solon, based on the views of a few alleged co-workers (real good social research there -- not). He could not be further from the truth, I can name a lot of people who care, who would never post on the net and don't know what an "enthusiast" is, beyond the "half-dozen preservationist types" he mistakely thinks are the only ones who care.
And he seems oddly offended that "journalists" (his quotes) would be interested in the story. "It was a good business decision," "get over it" and "case closed" only satisfies a few of those seeking answers about Geauga Lake, apparently. _________________ "It's a very special ride.
