So while these are all great suggestions for a family or individual... what about company outings?

Where do companies and unions in Akron and Canton go for their summer picnics now that Geauga Lake is gone?

Waterworks?  WWK?  The Local Muni. Pool?

Great points.  I know two companies on the Northeast side of Cleveland (Mentor, Ashtabula) that moved theirs to Waldameer, but that's a hike for a company outing for Akronites and Cantonites.

WWK (or any water-only park) is risky for a company outing in NE Ohio.  What if it rains?  What about people who don't look so hot in swimming trunks or bathing suits?  The loss of GL leaves a big void since the nearest amusement parks are all a good 2-hour commute for you the Ak-Can area.

How about an Akron Aeros or Akron Racers game?

We've done the Aeros game once, and it was pretty fun, but we didn't arrange any kind of picnic or food, just free tickets in a large cluster...
