First off let me say it was extremely dissappointing to see the Paramount logos still plastered on everything at KD. My friend Jeff and I got to the park around 5pm and decided to make good use of our Maxx passes.

Here's how the night went

- Hypersonic XLC - waited an hour to ride and it ended up being a huge waste of time. The launch was extremely forceful and the train bounced and jostled through the entire track. Noble experiment, horrendous result.

- Hurler - Still in the "Paramount Soundstage 31" this wooden coaster tells me why International coasters ever built 2 total coasters. The turn that wraps around the station after the first drop is taken way to fast and is really painful. Though the ride did have some nice pops of airtime but it couldn't help overcome the beating we took.

- Ricochet - your standard wild mouse, very fun

- Shockwave - TOGO standup death machine. I probably would have enjoyed the ride a bit more if I hadn't squeezed the restraints so much while I was goofing off. Oh well.

- Anaconda - very neat Arrow Looper with some extremely painful parts. Though the best part was the corkscrews over the water, totally disorienting.

- Italian Job: Turbo Coaster - same as IJ:ST at KI fun but with less effects working

- Avalanche - This bobsled coaster was a blast, I didn't think it would be as fun as it was. It completely blew me away. Awesome ride.

- Grizzly - If it weren't for the fact that it slows so much on the second hill this could have been a great ride. Instead it clocks in at average, though I did nearly lose my hand going into the tunnel.

The next morning we were at the park for opening. We immediately got in line for Volcano: The Blast Coaster as we knew the line would only get longer as the day went on.

- Volcano - I've only ever been on two Intamin Inverts (SV and WT) neither of which were complete circuits. Volcano was tremendous especially the launch up and out.

- Flight of Fear - Standard spaghetti bowl clone, though one thing I thought was neat was right before the exit platform there was a large sheet of plastic draped along the left side of the brake run giving the illusion of a ceiling. Until we stopped, I was completely disoriented and thought we were coming into the station sideways.

- Scooby Doo's Ghoster Coaster - A terrific John Allen classic. The trains tracked very well and it was a smooth ride all the way through.

- Rebel Yell - Both forwards and backwards were tremendous with lots of cool floater air time.

That did it for our time at KD I'll be posting the rest of my TR's on Busch Gardens Europe, Dollywood, Beech Bend, Holiday World, and Kings Island later on this week.

Nice TR. I look forward to reading about the other parks, in particular BGE and Griffon as well as Dollywood and Mystery Mine.

My last time at KD was 2003 and I had hoped to go down there this year but other things had sprung up.  There were some aspects of KD that I thought were better than KI (KD's International Street is much nicer, IMO, and the park has much more shade).

I have always felt that Hypsersonic's launch was better than Dragster's and I think it's because it is more forceful.  0 to 80 in mere seconds is somewhat insane.  The rest of the ride is/was rather lackluster.  I know the ride's for sale but I wonder if they'll just go ahead and dismantle it after this season.

Avalanche and Volcano are probably the two best rides there.  What hurts Grizzly is the fact they removed a lot of trees as that ride used to be completely hidden in the forest like the Beast.

Avalanche is a sweet coaster, the cars are unique and add to the experince. In 2002 me and my sister were an example on ride photo for hurler. By the way did you see a man walking around with a briefcase wearing a hat that says harry on the brim?

Can't say that I did, but then I wasn't paying attention to most people, though I did see a kid with his face painted like a zombie.

Doubleloop was referring to the movie "Rollercoaster" with George Segal and Timothy Bottoms.  It came out in 1977 and featured a good portion of the Kings Dominion at the time.

I have it on DVD - one of my favorite "cult classic" movies.

Only about 45 minutes with heavy traffic I believe.  It's definitely worth it. But I would travel the extra hour past KD for Busch Gardens Europe in Williamsburg.  KD is nice but BGE has Griffon, Alpengeist, and Apollo's Chariot.  3 very awesome B&M coasters.
