Seems like new parks are having a hard time. Visionland had problems, the original Kentucky Kingdom, and even Jazzland.  Makes you wonder how Hard Rock Park is going to do.

Wild West World files for bankruptcy
BY BILL WILSON
The Wichita Eagle

Wild West World LLC officials filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy today in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Wichita, the first step in the probable sale of the park. The park also closed its doors.

In e-mail this morning, park owners Thomas and Cheryl Etheredge said the park has ceased day-to-day operations and is negotiating for a buyer. A news conference has been set for 2 p.m. today at the park's Johnny Western Theater to discuss the bankruptcy.

"It is not the intent of Wild West World management to permanently close the park," the release states. "Thomas and Cheryl Etheredge state that they believe in Park City and Wichita and the need for family entertainment."

Chapter 11 bankruptcy would allow the park to reorganize debt and potentially reopen.

Customers were turned away from the park this morning. But park officials said they do not plan to permanently close Wild West World.

The Etheredges blame Kansas weather for the park's failure, saying that 50 of the park's first 60 operating days were adversely affected by rain and severe weather.

All employees have been paid through July 8, according to the news release. The Wichita law firm Redmond & Nazar LLP will handle the bankruptcy proceedings.

Wow.  That didn't take long.  From the looks of the park on TPR though, I'm not surprised.

That's sad. ScreamScape said that they'd probably add a wooden roller coaster in 2009.

Wow that was quick. Hope they are able to somehow bounce back this park looks like it had a lot of potential.
