hey guys, sadly, i did go to Cedar point yesterday. Please DONT get mad at me. I went alone so i was the only one spending my money.
Now when i went there, it was beyond a nice day. 80 degrees and sunny ALL DAY.
Now, towards 5:30 there was a small drizzle but quickly cleared out, no thunder or anything.

Now, the parking lot was not busy at all, only a little more than a fourth of the parking lot was filled.
When i first entered the park, i was thinking within my head that i would get pushed and shoved throughout the midway, just because its usually beyond crowded like that. Amazingly, The midway it self wasnt even half full. (and i got there around 12, so, no reason it was that empty.)

Anyway, i headed to the corkscrew as a start up ride, COMPLETE WALK-ON. i just walked through the line, then BINGO, i was on.

Next, i headed straight for the Magnum, yet another WALKON!

After that, i got some of that tasty lemon sorbet smoothie stuff for 4 dollars. (not exactly a rip-off, but it was big..)

Then walked over to the Gemini, sadly, only the red train was up, so i had to wait for all of 3 minutes before i  could get on, then of course they got the blue train on once i got on.

Soon after, i made my way around by the Meanstreak. (didnt bother riding it, its TOOOO rough.) But i did watch the meanstreak for a couple minutes and noticed they only had 1 train running, and it was only half full! (pretty slow today, right?)

Ok, back to topic, i then walked over to the Maverick and got in line. I only had to wait 20 minutes! (about half the time i was standing there because they were trying to fix the ride. One of the trains kept rolling back on the LIM hill. (the first hill) But they said it was just a regular thing, so nothing to worry about. (is that true?)

Next, i went to the Chickfil-a where i got a combo meal. (10 BUCKSS?!!)

^Rip off much?

Then, i rode the Millenium, Raptor, Mantis, top thrill, and Wicked Twister.

Millenium was about a 20 minute wait. (This was towards  4:00 when it was still 78 degrees and sunny outside.)

Raptor  and Mantis were walkons where Top Thrill i had to wait about ten minutes. (Around 4:30, still mid to high 70's.

Then, wicked twister, my last ride of the day, broke down for 5 minutes while i was in line, but got right back running. So it was only a 7 minute wait before i could ride.

Finally, i grabbed a slice of pizza for 4 dollars at the pizza patio, then headed home.

So basically, Cedar point was BEYOND slow today. I never really heard of the concept, "walk-on"  At cedar point for any coaster there.

What do you think?

I think you shouldn't have spent any money in the park.

As a passholder, I can understand going.  But I don't spend a dime in there...in fact, I purposely don't bring money, credit, or debit card inside the park.

As far as wait times go, that is totally typical for this season.

Hard times, Cedar Point??

I am not surprised by this trip report.  I also am not surprised that it is "status quo" at the Point except for throwing some online specials on the web site to try and generate attendance which can't possibly work all that well since the Great Lakes area tends to have a lower usage of home computers and online familiarity.  THIS IS THE SUMMER TO DO SOMETHING OUTSIDE OF THE BOX!  Personally, I would do something so shocking and radical it would be a PR bonanza to the entire industry...I WOULD ELIMINATE PARKING FEE'S FOR THE REMAINDER OF 2008!  That's right folks, pull up to the toll booth, get a nice souvenior map and off you go...NO PARKING FEE!  Where would I make up the money?  At the main gate and hotel/resorts.  I would raise the discounted admissions or hotel vacation packages just enough to cover the "no parking fee promo" so the end results would be the same (that basically would be $2.50 per person in a family of 4 to cover the $10 parking loss).  Think about it, it worked at Holiday World when they offered FREE soda-pop in the park by raising the gate admission just a little to cover that expense....and it created an enormous amount of interest/goodwill in that park which is known for its hospitality and great customer service culture.

Radical?  YOU BET!  Outside of the box?  ABSO-FRIGGIN-LUTELY!!!  Headline grabber?  THE BIGGEST ANNOUNCEMENT EVER!  Worth trying? RIDE ON!

The problem with the current management (IE Dick the senile old man Kinzel) is that the have no outside the box thinking skills whatsoever. This is what got them into this mess in the first place. I agree something radical like SC88 mentioned would probably generate more in the way of attendance. But you see they are too stuck in the past to realize this and they are a bunch of money grubbing scumbags. So yeah ride on you old fart, right into oblivion.

ILoveGeauga, i understand that you dont want to spend any money there, but how is it typical for this season?!

I mean, Maverick, "voted greatest coaster of 2007" has only a 15 minute wait only 1 year after it opened, on a friday when its 80 degrees and sunny outside?

uh, yeah hardtimes.
But i DO understand what you are saying. thanks for the post.

Big hit for cedar point starting off. For their sake they better hope they get a little bussier or they will suffer big time. Which right now I really don't mind watching the point suffer. Smile

I went to cedar point last tuesday. There were lines for basically everything. There were 1hr waits for TTD, MF, Maverick, and Mantis. Raptor had a good line too. It is really expensive up there compared to Kennywood. I like Cedar Point a lot, I had a blast an I think it's better than kennywood set aside the price differences. I got stuck at the bottom of magnum for awhile and I was mad I didn't get a chance to ride it cause it was down for the rest of the day. Maverick is still the best roller coaster, but I do think Cedar Point is fun. I think it's sweet if less people go there cause then it's more for me. Very Happy

It's not that I don't like Cedar Point. I've had some good times there in the past. I don't like Cedar Fair and what they did to Geauga Lake. I guess boycotting is my way of protest.  Besides, with the way gas is now, plus the cost of food and the trip over and back (remember I live 5 miles from GL) it's just not cost effective for me to go.

For those of you who do go to CP this year, enjoy! But as for me I can't give my money to someone who killed the park in my home area.

I also don't hate CP the park, I don't think its the best park on the planet, but I don't hate it (I actually like KW better right now than CP). What I hate is how its operated like its still the 70's and run by one of the most crooked despicable men in the amusement park industry. Until he leaves and I see some changes I will not step foot in that park or any other CF park for that matter.

^What about after the Dick leaves?

And about the LSM question that the poster had, yes it is true that the train rolls back is regular thing to happen.

Like I said until Dick leaves and I see some changes I will not step foot in any CF park, once hes gone I will reconsider retuning. I am sure they don't miss me nor to be honest do I miss CP.

Coasterdad: sounds like you're looking for John the Baptist's head on a platter (maybe one made out of scrapped metal from Double Loop)?

Dick's departure (hopefully sooner rather than later) will not make me go back to CP.  I hated the ONE time I went there and it made me appreciate GL all the more.  I waited 3 hours to ride Millenium Force* in its first season and was about to kill someone.

I never really understood a "family amusement park" until that day.  It wasn't just the wait, it was the attitude of everyone I encountered while there.  Every single employee (and most of the guests) were little-Dicks the whole time - it was almost like everyone else was indoctrinated with subliminal Dick messages except me.

Dick's departure won't make me return until the park's entire operation changes.

Don't get me wrong, I love coasters and wish I could get a ride on many of the coasters I missed on that first visit but even 10 minute waits for a gigacoaster wont make me PAY to put up with that kind of customer service.

*BTW: I compared riding Millenium Force to sex (a story all my friends still talk about):  I waited way too long for it, it was really intense while I was on, then it was over WAY too quickly... afterwards my knees were sore, my legs were weak and I really needed a cigarette.

I won't never go there either. Geauga Lake was a Family Park cause those who have kid's,(little ones) know that waiting 3hr's anywhere will make a kid scream, sad, and plain bored to death! That's why I loved geauga lake! Lines never long, get right on and kids just smiling at you while riding the BLMR.

Dick don't think of family and neither do WWK employee's. Here's what I mean,(They told me at Tradewinds anything that say's family amusement park on it is half-off) is this what are country is coming to, no families, just teenage kids going krazy or is it just me. That truely tells me how CF thinks of Family, that we are just a 50% discounted item!
