They moved it to Virginia, but it will not run again.
According to Screamscape someone at Kings Dominion informed ACE members attending an event "that upon inspection the Black Squid was not in good enough shape to be run again and wouldn't be installed as originally planned."
http://screamscape.com/html/kings_dominion.htm
Another ride that probably had a few more years in it if it had been kept at Geauga Lake, but not in good enough shape to withstand a move and reassembly.
That was a great ride, whether it was up next to Route 43 or back in Happy Harbor.
There is another just like it, except it is painted black, at Idlewild (near Pittsburgh, about 2.5 hours from Aurora, along with a Caterpillar with working canopy, Tilt-a-whirl, Scrambler and more). Don't eat just before riding though! _________________ "It's a very special ride. We want to make sure it has a proper home." Cedar Fair's Innes on Big Dipper, 12th oldest roller coaster on Earth.

Camden park's is pretty good, and the one at Waldemeer reminded me alot of the black widow, especially at night _________________ Confidentiality is telling one person at a time.

I was looking at the photos of Old Chicago, and noticed that they had a Black Squid, Enterprise, and Yo-Yo that looked EXACTLY like the ones at GL. Were any of the GL rides transplants from Old Chicago? |

GL's Black Squid (or Spider as it was known in previous years) was an original GL ride installed new in the mid to late 60's.
Enterprise was installed new in the mid to late 70's.
Yo-Yo was used and installed in 80/81, not sure where it came from. _________________ Greed is what caused GL's demise and that just makes me sick. Lets do what we can to rat out Kinzel - hes a snake.

We really do need some kind of chart to show where all of the rides came from and went to... Not just from the auction, but in general. |

Are you sure about that one, cd? I was under the impression that both the YoYo and Rotor were bought new in 1981 for the price of $150K each. |

I would have to agree with Ray P, there is no one that knows more about GL ride history than him. I always though Yo-Yo was a used ride for some reason. Maybe because of the carnival models you see so much of. _________________ Greed is what caused GL's demise and that just makes me sick. Lets do what we can to rat out Kinzel - hes a snake.
